Background and objectives: Objective, accurate, and intuitive evaluation of knee joint function in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is important. This study aimed to clarify the gait characteristics of patients with bilateral KOA and their correlation with Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Materials and Methods: 20 patients with bilateral KOA and 20 conditionally matched healthy individuals were enrolled in the experimental and control groups, respectively. ⋯ The WOMAC score and gait analysis were significantly correlated (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The gait function of patients with KOA is significantly worse than that of normal people. The WOMAC scale and gait analysis can be used to assess KOA severity from different perspectives with good consistency.

Background and Objectives: Mounting evidence implicates oxidative damage in prostate carcinogenesis, contributing to modifications of macromolecules that drive cellular malignant transformation. Functional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of enzymes involved in redox homeostasis can disrupt pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance, leading to accumulation of reactive oxygen species and oxidative damage. We investigated the potential role of genetic polymorphisms of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1 rs1050450) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2 rs4880) and regulatory antioxidant protein nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2 rs6721961) in the susceptibility to prostate cancer development (PC) and prognosis. ⋯ When tested in combination, individuals with both SOD2*C allele and Nrf2*C/C genotype were also at increased risk of PC development, which was augmented when combined with acquired contributory factors. During the mean 75 ± 25 months of follow-up, investigated gene polymorphisms did not affect overall survival. Conclusion: Our results suggest that these gene polymorphisms could be used as risk biomarkers of PC evolution.

Background and Objectives: Anterior capsulotomy is routinely performed in hip arthroscopy to improve joint visualization; however, this can partly or completely disrupt the stabilizing ligaments of the hip. This study aimed to report the effects of conventional and extensive arthroscopic capsulotomies on hip stability. Materials and Methods: Eight freshly frozen cadaveric pelvises were used in this study. ⋯ Compared with conventional interportal capsulotomy, disruption of the entire IFL resulted in a significant increase in external rotation in all flexion planes, and significant translation was accompanied by disruption of the ZO. Conclusions: Interportal capsulotomy can result in an increase in range of motion, and T-capsulotomy can lead to significant translation. Partial or complete tears of the IFL and ZO can result in further external rotation and translation.

Background and objectives: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the most common type of urinary incontinence, affecting approximately 46% of adult women. After failure of conservative treatment, the mid-urethral sling (MUS) is considered the most effective and safe surgical procedure for SUI. In 2012, Waltregny et al. introduced a new trans-obturator tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure, named TVT-abbrevo (TVT-A). ⋯ No serious early or late complications such as urethral/bladder injury, persistent groin-thigh pain, and sexual dysfunction that required mesh removal were detected. The univariate analysis did not reveal any risk factors (i.e., age, body mass index (BMI), menopause, obstetric factors, and preoperative ICIQ- SF questionnaire) statistically associated with failure of the TVT-A procedure. Conclusions: In conclusion, the 5-year follow-up results of this study demonstrated that TVT-A is a safe and effective option for treatment of SUI with a very low rate of post-operative groin-thigh pain.
