Review Meta Analysis
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement vs. Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement for Long-Term Mortality Due to Stroke and Myocardial Infarction: A Meta-Analysis during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Background and objectives: One of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in people over the age of 50 is stroke. The acceptance of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as a treatment option for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) has increased as a result of numerous randomized clinical trials comparing surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and TAVR in high- and intermediate-risk patients, showing comparable clinical outcomes and valve hemodynamics. Materials and Methods: An electronic search of Medline, Google Scholar and Cochrane Central was carried out from their inception to 28 September 2022 without any language restrictions. ⋯ It is clear from this that the SAVR intervention techniques applied in the six studies were successful in reducing cardiogenic consequences over time. Conclusions: A significantly decreased rate of mortality from cardiogenic causes was associated with SAVR. Additionally, when TAVR and SAVR were compared for stroke mortality, the results were nonsignificant with a p value of 0.57, indicating that none of these procedures could decrease stroke-related mortality.

Background and Objectives: The study investigated whether the method of achieving hemostasis affects the ovarian reserve in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery due to ovarian tumors or cysts. Materials and Methods: Patients with unilateral tumors or ovarian cysts, who qualified for laparoscopic tumor enucleation, were randomly selected to receive modified polysaccharides or bipolar coagulation. Ovarian reserve was analyzed by anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) level. ⋯ There was no statistically significant decrease in AMH in the group of patients treated with the modified starch. Conclusions: Using a modified polysaccharide during laparoscopic cystectomy is effective and has a positive effect on the ovarian reserve compared to the use of bipolar coagulation. Both the AMH level 6 months after surgery and the percentage decrease in AMH were more favorable in the group of patients treated with modified starch.

Abdominal Stent-Graft Treatment of Ascending Aortic Pseudoaneurysm Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.
An ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm is a potentially lethal complication in aortic procedures. We present a hybrid approach using surgical innominate artery access and the endovascular insertion of an abdominal stent-graft extension to successfully treat a zone 0 ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm in a patient with a prior valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

Objective. The causes of internal posteruptive discoloration of teeth are bleeding, necroses, infections, and endodontic filling materials. The aim of this study was to establish the results of bleaching endodontically treated teeth using walking bleach, in-office, and combined techniques, using 30% carbamide peroxide and 35% hydrogen peroxide, as well as the effect of etiological factors, and the time elapsed after endodontic treatment on the success of bleaching. ⋯ There were no statistically significant differences observed between the bleaching success and etiological factors, bleaching techniques, or bleaching agents. Conclusions. The effectiveness of non-vital tooth bleaching is affected by the time elapsed after endodontic treatment.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an uncommon type of malignancy/cancer worldwide. However, NPC is an endemic disease in southeast Asia and southern China and the reasons behind the underlying for such changes are unclear. Even though the Epstein-Barr infection (EBV) has been suggested as an important reason for undistinguishable NPC, the EBV itself is not adequate to source this type of cancer. ⋯ EBV research continues to shed light on the carcinogenic process, which is important for a more comprehensive knowledge of tumor etiology and the development of targeted cancer therapeutics. In order to screen for NPC, EBV-related biomarkers have been widely used in a few high-incidence locations because of their close associations with the risks of NPC. The current review highlights the scientific importance of EBV and its possible association with NPC.
