Background and Objectives: This study reviewed the literature to summarize the current and recent knowledge of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). Methods: Through a literature review, this work summarizes many concepts related to TMJOA. Results: Although many signaling pathways have been investigated, the etiopathogenesis of TMJOA remains unclear. ⋯ Treatment options include noninvasive, minimally invasive, and surgical techniques. Several study models have been used in TMJOA studies because there is no gold standard model. Conclusion: More research is needed to develop curative treatments for TMJOA, which could be tested with reliable in vitro models, and to explore tissue engineering to regenerate damaged temporomandibular joints.

Background and Objectives: Distal femoral fracture is a severe injury that makes surgery challenging, particularly comminuted fractures in the supracondylar region. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of distal femoral fracture treated with the application of an intramedullary fibular allogenic bone strut in open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with precontoured locking plates in patients over 50 years of age. Materials and Methods: The study retrospectively enrolled 202 patients over 50 years of age with traumatic comminuted distal femoral fracture (AO/OTA 33-A3, 33-C2 and 33-C3) treated with ORIF with a locking plate from January 2016 to December 2019. ⋯ The 36 patients who had received an intramedullary allogenic fibular bone strut reported lower postoperative pain scores at 1 month and lower postoperative Knee Society Scores (KSS) at 3 months than the control group. The application of an intramedullary allogenic fibular bone strut appeared to be significantly correlated with better 3-month postoperative KSS. Conclusions: The ORIF of distal femoral comminuted fracture with an intramedullary allogenic fibular bone strut can reduce pain and improve knee function in the early stages of postoperative rehabilitation and may reduce the time to union in patients over 50 years of age.

Study design: Technical note. Objectives: To present a novel C-arm-free technique guided by navigation to insert and place a C1 lateral mass screw. Background and Objectives: Atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) is a relatively common sequelae in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and upper cervical trauma. ⋯ The patient showed almost full recovery (JOA 16/17) at two months follow-up and a solid bony fusion was noticed in the radiograms at one year follow-up. Conclusions: This novel surgical procedure and C1 lateral mas screw placement technique is a practical and safe method in recent advances of AAS treatment. Procedurally, the technique helps prevent epidural bleeding from the screw entry point and also allows for proper C1 screw insertion under navigation guidance without exposing surgeons and staff to the risk of fluoroscopic radiation.

Addison's Disease in the Course of Recurrent Microangiopathic Antiphospholipid Syndrome-A Clinical Presentation and Review of the Literature.
The article presents a male patient with adrenocortical insufficiency in the course of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). It also describes recurrent exacerbations of his clinical status, characteristic of microangiopathic antiphospholipid syndrome (MAPS) which had been misdiagnosed as a disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) syndrome due to sepsis with multi-organ failure, including heart, kidneys, and liver. ⋯ The role of vascular endothelial cell activation and the influence of coagulation patterns on the development of APS continuum clinical symptoms have also been mentioned. In addition, this paper highlights that the diagnosis of APS should be considered in patients with adrenal insufficiency and abdominal pain, even without any prior history of thromboembolic diseases, as well as in the course of DIC, especially without predisposing factors.

Background and Objectives: Studies analyzing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after simultaneously performing lateral meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) and capsulodesis are currently rare. This study aimed to compare the MRI results between the group that performed lateral MAT alone and the group that performed both lateral MAT and capsulodesis simultaneously. Materials and Methods: A total of 55 patients who underwent lateral MAT with a 1-year follow-up MRI were included. ⋯ However, in group C, JSW significantly increased from 3.9 ± 0.4 mm to 4.5 ± 1.4 mm (p = 0.031). Conclusions: In lateral MAT, capsulodesis (open decortication and suture anchor fixation) could reduce graft extrusion without complications. In the future, large-volume and long-term prospective comparative studies are needed to confirm the clinical effects following capsulodesis.
