Stress urinary incontinence is a common disease in middle-aged and elderly women, which seriously affects the physical and mental health of the patients. For this reason, researchers have carried out a large number of studies on stress urinary incontinence. ⋯ The combined actions of a variety of factors lead to the occurrence of stress urinary incontinence. This review aims to summarize the anatomical pathogenesis of stress urinary incontinence from the above three perspectives.

Cardiac tamponade is a rare presentation in patients with COVID-19, which may be induced by the associated exacerbated inflammatory response. The onset of cardiac tamponade may be concomitant with the acute phase of the disease or may develop subsequently as a new health condition secondary to the disease. We report four cases of cardiac tamponade that occurred late after the acute phase of the disease. ⋯ In all four cases, pericardiocentesis was imposed, and surprisingly, in every case, hemorrhagic fluid was evacuated. In this case, series, immune-mediated etiology is supported by histopathological results, where the main identified feature was fibrous pericarditis with inflammatory infiltrate. Only one patient included in this report died, and three of them were discharged after anti-inflammatory treatment was initiated.

Background and Objectives: To determine the antibiotic resistance rate of H. pylori among patients with peptic ulcer. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional monocentric study was conducted from January to December 2021 among patients aged from 16 years with gastrointestinal symptoms and esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Gastric mucosa biopsies were collected at the edges of the ulcer or at lesion sites for H. pylori culture. ⋯ The reports on H. pylori eradication from different geographic areas show heterogeneous results. Therefore, continuous monitoring of antibiotic resistance of H. pylori in each population is very important. Having evidence helps clinicians to treat patients most effectively, reduce treatment costs, and limit the rate of antibiotic resistance.

Background and Objectives: In patients with acute heart failure (AHF), there is no definite evidence on the relationship between high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTnI) and the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) comparing the reduced and preserved EF conditions. Materials and Methods: Between January and April 2022, we retrospectively analyzed the data from 386 patients admitted to the emergency departments (ED) of five hospitals in Rome, Italy, for AHF. The criteria for inclusion were a final diagnosis of AHF; a cardiac ultrasound and hs-cTnI evaluations in the ED; and age > 18 yrs. ⋯ Conclusions: In patients admitted to the ED for AHF without ACS, there is a negative relationship between hs-cTnI and a reduced LVEF, although a significant percentage of patients with a preserved LVEF also resulted to have high levels of hs-cTnI. In the absence of ACS, hs-cTnI seems to be a reliable biomarker of myocardial injury in AHF in the ED and should be considered as a risk stratification parameter for these subjects regardless of the left ventricular function. Further larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these preliminary data.

Background and Objectives: Postoperative adjuvant therapy with uracil and tegafur (UFT) is often used for stage II colon cancer in Japan, but a limited number of studies have investigated the effects of UFT in these patients. Materials and Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort study in patients with resected stage II colon cancer comparing the outcomes after postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy with UFT with an observation-only group. The data were collected from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database from 2000 to 2015. ⋯ Results: No differences in the DFS and OS were detected between the UFT (1137 patients) and observation (2779 patients) cohorts (DFS: adjusted HR 0.702; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.489-1.024; p = 0.074) (OS: adjusted HR 0.894; 95% CI 0.542-1.186; p = 0.477). In the subgroup analyses of the different substages, UFT prolonged DFS in patients with stage IIA colon cancer (adjusted HR 0.652; 95% CI 0.352-0.951; p = 0.001) compared with DFS in the observation cohort, but no differences in the OS were detected (adjusted HR 0.734; 95% CI 0.475-1.093; p = 0.503). Conclusions: Our results show that DFS improved significantly in patients with stage IIA colon cancer receiving UFT as a postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy compared with DFS in the observation group.
