Maxillary sinus augmentation (MSA) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) have shown successful clinical, radiological, and histological outcomes for implant-related bone reconstruction and have been used to augment bony defects of various shapes and sizes. This study demonstrated that the lateral sinus bony window obtained during MSA can be used as an autogenous block bone graft for the augmentation of wide post-extraction defects. ⋯ All of the implants survived. Within the limitations of this study, autogenous block bone obtained from lateral window sites can be used as novel donors for the resolution of wide bony defects around implants.

Background and Objectives: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a kidney disease where the patient has a classic triad of signs and symptoms including hypercholesterolemia, hypoalbuminemia, proteinuria (>3.5 g/24 h), and peripheral edema. In case of NS, the damaged nephrons (structural and functional unit of the kidney) filter unwanted blood contents to make urine. Thus, the urine contains unwanted proteins (proteinuria) and blood cells (hematuria), while the bloodstream lacks enough protein albumin (hypoalbuminemia). ⋯ The variant was present in a homozygous state in the affected individuals, while in a heterozygous state in phenotypically normal parents. Results: The study expanded the spectrum of the mutations in the gene CRB2 responsible for causing NS. Conclusions: In addition, the study will also help in genetic counseling, carrier testing, and prenatal and/or postnatal early diagnosis of the disease in the affected family.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been established as a life-saving technique for patients with the most severe forms of respiratory or cardiac failure. It can, however, be associated with severe complications. Anticoagulation therapy is required to prevent ECMO circuit thrombosis. ⋯ It is also necessary to keep in mind that hemocoagulation tests are not specific, and their results, used for setting up the dosage, can be biased by many factors. The knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of particular drugs, limitations of particular tests, and individualization are cornerstones of prevention against critical events, such as life-threatening bleeding or acute oxygenator failure followed by life-threatening hypoxemia and hemodynamic deterioration. This paper describes the effects of anticoagulant drugs used in ECMO and their monitoring, highlighting specific conditions and factors that might influence coagulation and anticoagulation measurements.

Background and Objectives: Shared-decision making has become an important trend in the problem of women’s preference for the way of delivery. There are different factors influencing women, including obstetric history, culture, religion, family and social influences. Materials and Methods: The study was designed as an online survey with the aim of acquiring information about women’s knowledge, opinions and preferences about the mode of delivery and the decision-making process. ⋯ In 2010, 34.9% of women with a history of cesarean section (CS) only, compared to 6.9% of women with a history VD only, had preference for CS with, respectively, 36.4% vs. 5.8% in 2020. Conclusions: As the proportion of women who prefer cesarean delivery has significantly increased over the last decade, we should emphasize the importance of educating women about the advantages and disadvantages of vaginal and cesarean delivery. The patient’s preference should always be discussed with the obstetrician and the medical indications explained.
