Review Meta Analysis
Diagnostic Value of microRNA-375 as Future Biomarker for Prostate Cancer Detection: A Meta-Analysis.
Background and Objectives: Responding to the need for additional biomarkers for the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa), mounting studies show that microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) possess great potential as future promising diagnostic tools. However, the usefulness of these miRNAs is still highly debated, as the degree of inconsistency between study designs and results is still elevated. Herein, we present a meta-analysis evaluating the diagnostic value and accuracy of circulating miR-375, as it is one of the most studied types of miRs in PCa. ⋯ Results and Conclusion: We obtained a p-value of 0.76 for sensitivity, 0.83 for specificity, 16 for DOR, 4.6 for LR+, 0.29 for LR-, and 0.87 for AUC (95% CI 0.83-0.89). Our results confirm that miRNA-375 has high diagnostic potential for PCa, suggesting its usefulness as a powerful biomarker. More comprehensive studies are warranted to better assess its true value as a diagnostic biomarker for this urologic disease.

Substantially High Hidden Blood Loss in Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion: Retrospective Case Series.
Background and Objectives: Measured blood loss frequently underestimates true blood loss; this discrepancy is called hidden blood loss (HBL). The purpose of the present study was to measure HBL in oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF). Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent two-stage OLIF at our institute from September 2017 to September 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. ⋯ Conclusions: The HBL in OLIF was 797 mL, which was more than other previously reported procedures. Therefore, OLIF may not be less invasive in terms of HBL. Blood loss after surgery should be considered, especially when patients are younger, are female, and have a greater number of fused segments.

Background and Objectives: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is considered the most successful surgical procedure in orthopedics. However, dislocation remains the main indication for surgical revision. New designs of dual mobility cups (DMC) have lowered the classical complications and have extended the indications of DMC in elective surgeries. ⋯ Dislocations were associated to smaller heads (22 mm) (1.5% vs. 25%, p = 0.008) and cups (51.2 mm vs. 48.7 mm, p = 0.038) and posterior approach (62.5% vs. 37.5%, p = 0.011). Conclusion: Dual mobility cups are a great option to reduce the risk of dislocation after a THA both in the neck of femur fractures and elective cases. The use of an anterolateral approach in THA after a neck or femur fracture might considerably decrease the risk of dislocation.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a very common condition, negatively affecting social, occupational, domestic, and psychophysical wellbeing. In particular, a peculiar and detrimental effect of UI has been described concerning sexual function. However, the impact of UI on quality of life is not fully understood yet, and further investigation into this issue is warranted. ⋯ Treatments aimed to cure urinary incontinence-including pelvic floor muscles training, medications, and surgery-seem to improve quality of life by recovering, at least in part, sexual function. In conclusion, there is a substantial association between involuntary urinary loss and sex life quality. However, few studies are available and more evidence is needed before consistent conclusions can be made.

Background and Objectives: The IDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase) status represents one of the main prognosis factors for gliomas. However, determining it requires invasive procedures and specialized surgical skills. Medical imaging such as MRI is essential in glioma diagnosis and management. ⋯ Sensitivity and Specificity were 0.78 with 95% CI of (0.45, 0.96) and 0.75 with 95% CI of (0.47, 0.91), respectively. Conclusions: Although our results match the external test the author made on The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) online dataset, performance of the algorithm on external data is still not high enough for clinical application. Radiogenomic approaches remain a high interest research field that may provide a rapid and accurate diagnosis and prognosis of patients with intracranial glioma.
