Background and Objectives: Rotator cuff tear is the most common cause of shoulder pain. If nonsurgical treatment fails, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) is recommended. Since the standards for rehabilitation after ARCR are not clear, various rehabilitation methods have been suggested. ⋯ As a result of the comparison between time points, a significant improvement was found in shoulder function at POD 6-week. In addition, the effect size had a large effect on ROM (flexion, scaption flexion, abduction, and external rotation) and shoulder function. Conclusions: Management through the PRP based on scientific evidence in the strategy of postoperative rehabilitation of patients with ARCR is effective for pain intensity, ROM, and shoulder function.

Background and Objectives: Candida albicans can be detected in subgingival sites of patients with periodontitis. However, the association between oral Candida albicans and periodontitis has not been fully elucidated in Japanese adults. The aim of this study is to clarify the relationship between oral Candida albicans infection/co-infection of oral C. albicans and Porphyromonas gingivalis and periodontitis among middle-aged and older Japanese people. ⋯ C. albicans/P. gingivalis co-infection was found in 12 patients (14%). Importantly, binomial logistic regression analysis revealed that C. albicans/P. gingivalis co-infection was significantly associated with ≥6 mm periodontal pockets with bleeding on probing (p = 0.02). Conclusions: Co-infection of C. albicans and P. gingivalis is involved in active periodontitis in middle-aged and older people.

Background and Objectives: Cataract is a disease that is globally prevalent in today's population and occurs mostly in the elderly. It is an opacity of the lens that worsens vision and can lead to blindness. One well-known risk factor of cataract is ultraviolet (UV) radiation. ⋯ Results: The results of the transmission measurements are in accordance with the results of the dark field images and state that 635 nm (red) is inducing no or only weak cataract. In comparison to the dark field images the transmission measurements exhibit stronger cataract formation for 407 nm than for 463 nm irradiation while the dark field images show similar cataract formation for both wavelengths. Conclusions: Visible light of short wavelengths cause cataract formation in porcine eyes, and it cannot be excluded that these wavelengths, which are emitted by modern LED illuminants, also pose a danger to human eyes.

Effects of H-Reflex Onset Latency on Gait in Elderly and Hemiplegic Individuals.
Background and Objectives: The Hoffmann's reflex (H-reflex) is important in electrodiagnostic testing because it improves sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing radiculopathies. Although quantitative electromyography (EMG) measurements for H-reflex amplitudes during the gait cycle have been performed in both hemiplegic and healthy individuals, research on the H-wave latency in these individuals during the gait cycle is lacking. Materials and Methods: The H-reflex latency of the soleus muscle was investigated in hemiplegic stroke patients and healthy elderly persons in this observational analytical study. ⋯ Stimuli were administered to elicit the H-reflex in the four gait phases as the participant walked. Results: Stroke patients had a significantly shorter latency than did healthy patients in the mid-swing, mid-stance, and toe-off phases of the gait cycle; heel-strike latency did not significantly differ. Conclusions: These results can be used as diagnostic data to help account for patient characteristics or measure the recovery extent for treatment planning and gait training in hemiplegic individuals.

Clinicians should be aware of all the characteristics and capacities of the instruments that are possible to use when conducting a root canal treatment. The wide variety of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary systems on the market and the lack of standardisation of this type of instrument makes the choice in each specific case difficult. Therefore, this review is intended to summarize the characteristics that should be taken into account when choosing one instrument over another. ⋯ The movement performed by the file is another of the fundamental keys to understand rotary instruments. In conclusion, when performing root canal treatment, the characteristics of the instrument and the tooth must be taken into account, and the operator's own limitations should be known. This paper provides the key points to keep in mind when making this type of treatment.
