Background and Objectives: This study's objective was to examine patients treated with robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) for intermediate-risk prostate cancer (IR-PCa), and to identify preoperative risk factors for biochemical recurrence (BCR) in these patients in Japan. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study of patients with PCa who underwent RARP at 10 institutions in Japan. A total of 3195 patients were enrolled in this study. ⋯ Using the Kaplan-Meier method, Gleason grade (GG) 3 was significantly associated with poor BRFS compared with ≤GG 2. In multivariate analysis, GG 3 was a significant predictive factor for BCR in patients with IR-PCa. Conclusions: The results of the study indicated a significant relationship between GG 3 and post-RARP BCR in patients with IR-PCa.

Background and Objectives: The efficiency and optimal voice rest period following phonosurgery remains debatable. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a safe and cheap alternative to many bioactive agents being studied on animal models, and is already in use in many medical areas. We investigate the short-term effects of PRP and voice rest on voice outcomes following phonosurgery as an alternative to voice rest alone. ⋯ Conclusions: PRP presents short term safety in patients who undergo phonosurgery, although long-term outcomes are unknown. PRP and voice rest are superior to voice rest alone when considering subjective assessment of the voice. When analyzing acoustic parameters, PRP and voice rest are not superior to voice rest alone.

Background and Objectives: Treatment-limiting decisions (TLDs) are employed to actively withhold treatment/invasive interventions from patients in whom clinicians feel they would derive little to no benefit and/or suffer detrimental effects. Data regarding the employment of TLDs in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remain sparse. Accordingly, this study sought to investigate both the prevalence of TLDs and factors driving TLDs in patients suffering from spontaneous ICH. ⋯ Congruent with severity of injury and expected outcomes, TLDs were more likely in patients with signs of cerebral herniation and an ICH score > 3 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The present study examines details associated with TLDs in patients with spontaneous ICH. These data provide insight into key decisional processes and reinforce the need for further structured investigations in an effort to help guide patients and their families.

Background and Objectives: Obesity has been linked to various cardiovascular risk factors, increased incidence of coronary artery disease, and myocardial perfusion defects. The aim of this study was to investigate if body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were associated with myocardial perfusion defects. Materials and Methods: A total of 308 consecutive patients who had myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and a complete medical record on file were studied retrospectively. ⋯ In contrast, within the female group, both BMI (30.2 vs. 27.1 kg/m2, p = 0.002) and WC (112 vs. 105.5 cm, p = 0.020) were significantly higher in the ischemia group. Multivariable logistic regression showed that male sex and BMI were the only two independent predictors of ischemia in our patient population. Conclusions: This study showed that BMI was an independent predictor of ischemia in our patient population.

The main etiology of acute pancreatitis includes biliary origin and alcohol, although various other causes include drugs (i.e., L-asparaginase) or malignant tumors. Since accurate identification of etiologies is crucial for determining therapeutic planning, the assessment of cause should be performed as early as possible. ⋯ Acute pancreatitis caused by pancreas involvement of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type, is a very rare disease but can occur during chemotherapy. To identify the cause of acute pancreatitis, endoscopic ultrasonography guided fine needle biopsy can be considered.
