Background and Objectives: The HH (hand hygiene) technique is relatively simple. Even so, in practice there are still non-conformities regarding this aspect. Lack of knowledge or lack of compliance can be reasons for non-adherence with HH techniques. ⋯ Final average covered area for palm was 69.91% (±13.5), 31.61:93.41 compared to 59.74% (±16.64), 26.13:92.72. No statistical significance was obtained by gender. Conclusions: The study showed an improvement in hand hygiene technique without highlighting gender differences.

Background and Objectives: Adherence to post-stroke pharmacotherapy has been less studied compared with other cardiovascular diseases, and previous research in this context utilized generic tools without cross-validating for stroke specific factors and patient characteristics. This study aimed to validate the Lebanese Medication Adherence Scale (LMAS-14) among stroke survivors to assess adherence to post-stroke pharmacotherapy. It also aimed to determine the socioeconomic, clinical characteristics, and health related quality of life correlates of medication adherence among stroke survivors. ⋯ Conclusions: The LMAS−14 is a valid and reliable tool to assess medication adherence in stroke practice and research. Severe difficulty in obtaining medications due to unpredictable availability and shortage of supplies is associated with lower medication adherence, and thus places stroke survivors at higher risk of complications and morality. Additional measures and urgent action by stroke care providers and public health stakeholders are necessary to ensure adequate post-stroke management and outcomes.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between smoking status and single-nucleotide polymorphism in candidate genes that had a known association with smoking-related tumors in previous studies and to explore their link to laryngeal cancer risk in a population of northern Romanian descent. The genes selected have key functions in xenobiotic metabolism (GSTs: the glutathione S-transferases family: GSTM1 and GSTT1) and chromosomal management (TERT). Materials and Methods: The genotype frequencies of TERTRs2736100 and the GST subfamilies (GSTM1 and GSTT1) were determined using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. ⋯ Conclusions: The results showed that the GSTT1-null genotype and the mutant heterozygote variant of TERTRs2736100 genes may play a significant role in laryngeal cancer susceptibility in subjects of northern Romanian descent. There may be no association between the susceptibility to laryngeal carcinoma and the GSTM1 polymorphism. The results could not confirm the carcinogenic influence smoking has on laryngeal cancer development for the studied polymorphisms.

Background and Objectives: In March 2020, COVID-19 pandemic affected the world. All countries, to limit viral transmission, imposed quarantine. This emergency exerted personal, social, economic, and psychological impact on people. ⋯ Conclusions: This study showed that telemedicine model for Sicilian population affected by COVID-19 was feasible, easy to use and appreciated by patients. Our promising results allow us to assume that if in Sicily there was a return of the emergency, we would be ready to manage it This system can be the solution to remote management of these patients, to reduce isolation, provide health services, and monitor virus infections. The use of this technology should encourage future research to change the health care system and provides opportunities to ensure health and care for oneself and others.

Oral Papillomatosis: Its Relation with Human Papilloma Virus Infection and Local Immunity-An Update.
Oral papilloma lesions may appear as a result of HPV infection, or not, and only special molecular methods could differentiate them. Low-risk and high-risk HPV types could induce oral HPV papillomatosis with different natural evolution, clearance and persistence mechanisms. The pathogenic mechanisms are based on the crosstalk between the oral epithelial and immune cells and this very efficient virus. ⋯ An accurate diagnostic of oral papilloma can be established through a good knowledge of etiological and epidemiological factors, clinical examination and laboratory tests. This review intends to update the pathogenic mechanisms driving the macroscopic and histological features of oral papillomatosis having HPV infection as the main etiological factor, focusing on its interreference in the local immunity. In the absence of an accurate molecular diagnostic and knowledge of local immunological conditions, the therapeutic strategy could be difficult to decide.
