Background and Objectives: Patients recovering from mild coronavirus disease (COVID-19) reportedly have dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing. We compared the prevalence of dysphagia between patients diagnosed with mild COVID-19 and those diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia alone. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from January 2020 to June 2023 in 160 patients referred for a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) to assess for dysphagia. ⋯ However, Group B showed improved triggering of the pharyngeal swallowing reflex compared with Group A2 (p = 0.02). Conclusion: Mild COVID-19 patients showed less severe dysphagia than those with aspiration pneumonia alone. This finding was consistent across VFSS parameters, even when the COVID-19 group was subdivided based on the status of aspiration pneumonia.

Background and objectives: The popliteal crease varies among individuals, and there has been no prior study on this aspect. We assumed that it may be associated with lower extremity alignment and osseous morphology. To demonstrate this, we conducted a radiographic analysis. ⋯ In multiple linear regression, only HKA was associated, excluding all other measurements. Conclusions: Popliteal crease obliquity is significantly associated with coronal plane lower extremity alignment and exhibits a stronger correlation than with underlying knee osseous morphology. If future research is conducted based on this, popliteal crease could serve as a valuable clue for predicting lower extremity alignment and the risk of osteoarthritis development.

Observational Study
Prevalence Rates of Arterial Hypertension According to the Threshold Criteria of 140/90 or 130/80 mmHg and Associated Cardiometabolic and Renal Factors: SIMETAP-HTN Study.
Background and objectives: Arterial hypertension (HTN) is the leading preventable cause of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) and death from all causes. This study aimed to determine the prevalence rates of HTN diagnosed according to the threshold diagnostic criteria 130/80 mmHg and 140/90 mmHg, to compare blood pressure (BP) control, and to evaluate their associations with cardiovascular diseases and cardiometabolic and renal risk factors. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted in primary care with a population-based random sample: 6588 people aged 18.0-102.8 years. ⋯ Coronary heart disease (CHD), heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, diabetes, prediabetes, low glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), hyperuricemia, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, overweight, and increased waist-to-height ratio were independently associated with HTN according to both criteria. Conclusions: Almost a third of the adult population has HTN according to the 140/90 criterion, and more than half according to the 130/90 criterion, with a higher prevalence in men. The main clinical conditions associated with HTN were heart failure, diabetes, CHD, low eGFR, and obesity.

Background and Objectives: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for about 95% of oral cancers. It represents a serious public health problem due to the high degree of morbidity and mortality, as well as multifactorial etiology. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a well-documented risk factor for oropharyngeal carcinoma, but its role in oral carcinogenesis is still debatable. ⋯ There was a statistically significant difference in nodal involvement between HPV-positive and HPV-negative patients with OSCC. Conclusions: Oral HR-HPV was detected in patients with oral premalignant and malignant lesions but not in healthy individuals, suggesting a possible role in oral carcinogenesis. Broad HR-HPV panel testing could increase the sensitivity of risk assessment and screening for OSCC.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A Randomized Controlled Trial of Vertebral Body Decompression Procedure Versus Conservative Treatment for Painful Vertebral Compression Fracture.
Background: Traditional treatment modalities for vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) include bed rest, pain medications, muscle relaxants, back braces, and physical therapy. In cases where conservative treatment proves ineffective, a new procedure called core decompression of the vertebral body is explored. Core decompression of the vertebral body has the potential to lower and stabilize the intraosseous pressure, resulting in enhanced blood circulation, which contributes to pain reduction. ⋯ At both 1 month and 3 months, there were no significant differences between the core decompression group and conservative treatment group in VAS pain score (adjusted treatment effect: -0.1 and 2.0; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -7.5 to 7.3 and -5.6 to 9.6; p = 0.970 and p = 0.601, respectively). In addition, there were no significant inter-group differences in ODI and EQ-5D scores throughout the follow-up period (p = 0.917 and 0.704, respectively). Conclusion: Core decompression of the vertebral body did not demonstrate any significant improvement in pain and disability compared to conventional conservative treatment.
