Childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus is an inflammatory and autoimmune condition characterized by heterogeneous multisystem involvement and a chronic course with unpredictable flares. Kidney involvement, commonly called lupus nephritis, mainly presents with immune complex-mediated glomerulonephritis and is more frequent and severe in adults. ⋯ Moreover, current literature often lacks pediatric-specific data, leading clinicians to rely exclusively on adult therapeutic approaches. This review aims to describe pediatric lupus nephritis and provide an overview of the novel perspectives on the pathogenetic mechanisms, histopathological classification, therapeutic approach, novel biomarkers, and follow-up targets in children and adolescents with lupus nephritis.

Respectful Maternal Care Experience in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review.
Background and Objectives: Respectful maternity care promotes practices that acknowledge women's preferences and women and newborns' needs. It is an individual-centered strategy founded on ethical and human rights principles. The objective of this systematic review is to identify the impact of income on maternal care and respectful maternity care in low- and middle-income countries. ⋯ It can be estimated that there is a direct association between income and maternity care in LMICs, and maternity care is substandard compared to high-income countries. Moreover, it is determined that the evidence for medical tools that can enhance respectful maternity care is sparse. Conclusions: This review highlights the significance of improving maternal care experiences, emphasizing the importance of promoting respectful practices and addressing disparities in low- and middle-income countries.

Association of Different Total Bilirubin Levels with Prognosis of Peritoneal Dialysis-Associated Peritonitis.
Background and Objectives: Peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis (PDAP) poses significant challenges in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patient management and outcomes. Total bilirubin has gained attention due to its antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. However, its relationship with PDAP prognosis remains underexplored. ⋯ Conclusions: This study unveils a dual role of total bilirubin in PDAP prognosis. Below a certain threshold, it confers protection, while higher levels exacerbate the risk of treatment failure. These findings emphasize the need for further investigation in larger, multicenter prospective studies to validate and elucidate the mechanisms behind bilirubin's impact on PDAP, potentially guiding the development of targeted therapeutic strategies.

The 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is the most common chromosomal microdeletion disorder caused by hemizygous microdeletion of the long arm of chromosome 22. It is now known to have a heterogenous presentation that includes multiple additional congenital anomalies and later-onset conditions, such as gastrointestinal and renal abnormalities, autoimmune disease, variable cognitive delays, behavioral phenotypes and psychiatric illness. ⋯ The pregnancy was regularly followed until delivery which took place in Germany so that neonatal cardiac surgery could be performed in an experienced center for cardiac malformations. The distinctivness of our report resides in the fact that it offers a complete image of a case of 22q11.2 deletion syndrome starting from the prenatal diagnosis (and emphasizing on the most relevant sonographic features) and, with parents not opting for termination of pregnancy, ending with the newborn surviving major cardiac surgery, offering thus the possibility to bring into focus postnatal outcome and future expectations in similar cases.

A coronally advanced flap combined with a subepithelial connective tissue graft is considered the gold standard for achieving root coverage on exposed root surfaces. Nevertheless, challenges arise when this technique is applied to multiple teeth and when the palatal soft tissue is very thin. ⋯ In this context, there have been no reported cases utilizing the submerged technique with partially de-epithelialized free gingival grafts. We intend to introduce a submerged technique involving partially de-epithelialized free gingival grafts for the modification of soft tissue phenotypes in the maxillary anterior region.
