Background and Objectives: Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a viral zoonotic infection, which is seen over a wide geographic area. The mortality rate is in inverse proportion to the ability of patients to access healthcare services. Therefore, early identification of patients is extremely important. ⋯ For a cut-off point of 0 of the Hitit Index evaluated at 24 h after hospitalization, the classification success was found to have a sensitivity of 79.7% and specificity of 84% (PPV-NPV). Conclusions: The defined form of the Hitit Index can be used in the differentiation of CCHF cases in ED with high sensitivity and specificity levels. Just as evaluation with the Hitit Index prevents unnecessary hospitalization, it can also contribute to reducing mortality rates with the early identification of CCHF cases.

Background and Objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health issue with rising incidence linked to substantial morbidity and mortality. Selenium, an antioxidant trace element, has been linked to low serum levels in end-stage renal disease. Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), a sleep disorder, is prevalent in CKD patients and significantly impacts their quality of life. ⋯ The difference in CKD stages between groups has shed light on a critical determinant of RLS in this population, emphasizing the role of the chronic kidney disease stage. In our study, serum selenium levels were not associated with the presence and severity of RLS. However, prospective studies with larger numbers of participants are needed to draw a definitive conclusion.

Background and Objectives: Mitral valve pathology and mitral regurgitation (MR) are very common in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and the evaluation of mitral valve anatomy and degree of MR is important in patients with HCM. The aim of our study was to examine the potential influence of moderate or moderately severe MR on the prognosis, clinical presentation, and structural characteristics of HCM patients. Materials and Methods: A prospective study examined 176 patients diagnosed with primary asymmetric HCM. ⋯ Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that the event-free survival rate during a median follow-up of 88 (IQR 40-112) months was significantly higher in Group 1 compared to Group 2 (84% vs. 45% at 8 years; log-rank 20.4, p < 0.001). After adjustment for relevant confounders, the presence of moderate or moderately severe MR remained as an independent predictor of adverse outcomes (HR 2.788; 95% CI 1.221-6.364, p = 0.015). Conclusions: The presence of moderate or moderately severe MR was associated with unfavorable long-term outcomes in HCM patients.

Background and Objectives: Neurosurgery has been underrepresented in the medical school curriculum. Advances in augmented reality and 3D printing have opened the way for early practical training through simulations. We assessed the usability of the UpSurgeOn simulation-based training model and report first experiences from a hands-on neurosurgery course for medical students. ⋯ The same fourteen students rated their learning experience as totally positive, and the remaining two rated it as rather positive. Conclusions: The UpSurgeOn educational app and cadaver-free models were perceived as usable and effective tools for the hands-on neuroanatomy and neurosurgery teaching of medical students. Comparative studies may help measure the long-term benefits of UpSurgeOn-assisted teaching over conventional resources.

Background and Objectives: Although fiber posts are widely used in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth (ETT), their ideal cementation depth into the root canal is still debated in literature. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the different intra-radicular insertion lengths of the fiber posts influence the fracture strength of ETT. Materials and Methods: A total of 10 permanent human lower incisors with straight roots of similar length and volume extracted for periodontal reason were sectioned 2 mm above the cement-enamel junction (CEJ) to a total length of 18 mm and endodontically treated in the same manner, then randomly divided into two groups of five each (Groups 1 and 2, n = 5). ⋯ Results: Although no statistically significant differences between groups were observed, the highest mean fracture force (N) was recorded in Group 2 (1099.41 ± 481.89) in comparison to Group 1 (985.09 ± 330.28), even when compared to the sound, non-treated teeth (1045.69 ± 146.19). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, teeth where fiber posts were placed deeper into the root canal (7 mm) recorded slightly higher fracture forces in comparison with shorter lengths (5 mm). However, similar biomechanical performances obtained in the mechanical tests showed no statistical differences between the 7 mm and the 5 mm inserted posts.
