The current scientific knowledge and guidelines in bone and soft tissue augmentation suggest the use of staged surgical workflows as the gold standard of regenerative procedures during implant therapy. In this context, the process is always the same, regardless of the techniques applied: an alternate series of surgical acts that follow one another after the completion of a specific period of osseointegration or graft maturation. As a result, the overall surgical treatment is often long and invasive and induces scar tissue formation. ⋯ Two cases are reported, one for an upper maxillary edentulous area and the other for a mandibular, with a total of four implants placed. The results at 4 months postop showed an optimal soft tissue configuration for both cases, with adequate cervical profile generation and a sufficient supracrestal complex height above the implant platforms. Significant bone gains were also recorded through CBCT data collection, either with alveolar width measurements on axial slices, the superposition of pre-op and post-op datasets, or 3D visualization after bone volume segmentation.

Background and Objectives: Urtica dioica, a source of bioactive functional compounds, provides nutritional and gastrointestinal therapeutic benefits. This study attempted to investigate the prophylactic coloprotective action of an aqueous extract of Urtica dioica (AEUD) on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC). Materials and Methods: Phenolic compounds, total sugar, and mineral levels were determined in AEUD. ⋯ Results: Due to its richness in phenolic and flavonoid compounds (247.65 ± 2.69 mg EAG/g MS and 34.08 ± 0.53 mg EQt/g MS, respectively), AEUD markedly ameliorated DAI, ulcer scores, colon length shortening, colonic histopathological changes, and hematological and biochemical modifications. Taken together, AEUD treatment notably (p < 0.01) suppressed DSS-induced UC by reducing oxidative stress via lowering MDA/H2O2 production and stimulating the effect of enzyme antioxidants as well as attenuating inflammation by decreasing CRP levels by 79.5% between the DSS and DSS + AEUD-50 groups compared to the MESA group (75.6%). Conclusions: AEUD was sufficient to exert a coloprotective effect that might be influenced by its bioactive compounds' anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities.

Observational Study
Dynamics of Capillary Lactate Levels in Patients with Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.
Background and Objectives: An effective strategy for cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be based on tissue perfusion. Our primary aim was to determine the association between capillary lactate values and initial rhythm as well as the probability of the return of spontaneous circulation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. Materials and Methods: This prospective observational cohort study included all patients with non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, older than 18 years, resuscitated by a prehospital emergency medical team between April 2020 and June 2021. ⋯ Capillary lactate values were higher in the ROSC group and non-ROSC group at the time of restored circulation (11.10 ± 6.59 and 6.77 ± 4.23, respectively; p = 0.047). Conclusions: Capillary lactate values are significantly higher in patients with a non-shockable first rhythm in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). There is also a significantly different rise in capillary lactate levels in patients with ROSC.

Background and Objectives: People with developmental disabilities are exposed to discrimination and it affects their daily life satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to examine the parallel mediating effect of social involvement and self-esteem on the relationship between discrimination and the daily life satisfaction of people with developmental disabilities to improve their daily life satisfaction. Materials and Methods: This study used raw data of participants with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder from a national panel survey of employment for the disabled second-wave fifth survey. ⋯ Results: Discrimination had a significant negative effect on daily life satisfaction and it was found that social involvement and self-esteem have a significant mediating effect that lowers the effect size of discrimination on daily life satisfaction. Specifically, it was found that self-esteem had a more mediating effect than social involvement. Conclusions: To increase the daily life satisfaction of people with developmental disabilities, the potential need to not only decrease discrimination but also increase their social involvement and self-esteem should be considered.

Background and Objectives: Patients with occult hip fractures are a difficult subgroup to treat. MRI is the gold standard for diagnosing occult proximal femur fractures but is costly and may not be readily available in an emergency setting. The purpose of this study was to determine whether changes in the proximal femur geometry can predict the likelihood of an occult hip fracture in patients presenting with hip pain following a ground-level fall. ⋯ The mean age was 82 years. The univariate analyses revealed a poor predictive ability of all radiological parameters with AUC values ranging from 0.515 (CBR) to 0.626 (CTI), whereas a multivariate prognostic model demonstrated improved prognosis (AUC = 0.761) for the CTI (p = 0.024), CBAR (p = 0.074) and CRR (p = 0.081) as the most promising predictive radiological parameters. Conclusions: Single radiologic indices obtained from conventional X-rays of the proximal femur have a weak predictive value in detecting occult fractures of the hip and cannot be used as clinical decision-making factors.
