Background and Objectives: Hand grip strength (HGS) and osteoporosis are known to be closely related to the health condition of the elderly, respectively. Comprehensive studies including adults over middle age were insufficient. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between HGS with osteoporosis and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults aged >40 years. ⋯ Middle-aged and older adults with both weak HGS and osteoporosis showed poorer HRQoL compared to healthy middle-aged and older adults. This suggests that HGS is a possible factor for predicting poor HRQoL in adults aged >40 years with or without osteoporosis. It is necessary to assess the risk of low HRQoL by measuring HGS and confirming whether osteoporosis is accompanied in adults over middle age.

Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) caused by cirrhosis has severe consequences on an individual's lifespan, leading to long-term liver complications and potentially life-threatening outcomes. Despite recent interest in this condition, the effectiveness of secondary prophylaxis involving rixafimin, lactulose, or L-ornithine L-aspartate (LOLA) may be hindered by the unique microbial profiles each patient possesses. Methods: Thus, in this manuscript, we aimed to search, identify, and gather all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2000-2023 (November) in four major academic databases such as PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect by using a controlled terminology and web strings that reunite six main keywords. ⋯ At the second assessment stage, we eliminated 11.42% (n = 4) studies, of which n = 22 finally met the eligibility criteria to be included in the main body of the manuscript. In terms of RCTs, otherwise found in distinct stages of development, n = 3 target FMT and n = 1 probiotics. Conclusions: Although we benefit from the necessary information and technology to design novel strategies for microbiota, only probiotics and synbiotics have been extensively studied in the last decade compared to FMT.

Afatinib-Induced Tumor Lysis Syndrome in Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.
Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a potentially fatal oncological emergency that typically develops during the treatment of rapidly proliferating malignancies. It is infrequently reported in solid tumors, such as pulmonary adenocarcinoma. A 59-year-old male patient with shortness of breath presented with a 3.3 cm × 3.0 cm mass in the right upper lobe, along with massive right-sided pleural effusion. ⋯ After 4 days of afatinib treatment, he developed oliguric acute kidney injury and progressively worsening dyspnea. Based on the clinical and laboratory findings, the patient was diagnosed with afatinib-induced TLS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of afatinib-induced TLS in pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Background and Objectives: Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema, is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting 16.5 million adults in the United States. AD is characterized by an impaired epidermal barrier that can predispose individuals to infection. End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is also commonly complicated by infections due to chronic vascular access and immune-system dysfunction, possibly related to uremia. ⋯ In all infectious outcomes except for conjunctivitis, patients with the infectious outcomes were more likely to carry a diagnosis of AD. After controlling for demographic and clinical covariates, AD was associated with an increased risk of cellulitis (adjusted relative risk (aRR) = 1.39, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.31-1.47) and herpes zoster (aRR = 1.67, CI = 1.44-1.94), but not with bacteremia (aRR = 0.96, CI = 0.89-1.05), septicemia (aRR = 1.02, CI = 0.98-1.08), or conjunctivitis (aRR = 0.97, CI = 0.740-1.34). Conclusions: Overall, after controlling for demographic and clinical covariates and adjusting for person-years-at-risk, AD was associated with an increased risk for some, but not all, infections within the population of patients with ESRD.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Ivabradine for the Prevention of Anthracycline-Induced Cardiotoxicity in Female Patients with Primarily Breast Cancer: A Prospective, Randomized, Open-Label Clinical Trial.
Background and Objectives: Cancer therapy containing anthracyclines is associated with cancer-treatment-related cardiac dysfunction and heart failure (HF). Conventional cardioprotective medications can be frequently complicated by their blood-pressure-lowering effect. Recently, elevated resting heart rate was shown to independently predict mortality in patients with cancer. ⋯ However, visual side effects (phosphenes) were reported in 14.3% of patients. Conclusions: Ivabradine is a safe, well-tolerated drug that has shown possible cardioprotective properties reducing the incidence of mild asymptomatic cancer-therapy-induced cardiac dysfunction, characterised by a new rise in troponin concentrations and diminished myocardial performance in anthracycline-treated women with breast cancer and increased heart rate. However, more extensive multicentre trials are needed to provide more robust evidence.
