Background and Objectives: To date, the therapeutic potential of skeletal muscle-derived stem/progenitor cells (MDSPCs) for acute kidney injury (AKI) has only been evaluated by our research group. We aimed to compare MDSPCs with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and evaluate their feasibility for the treatment of AKI. Materials and Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to four study groups: control, GM (gentamicin) group, GM+MDSPCs, and GM+BM-MSCs. ⋯ There was no significant difference in any parameters between the MDSPCs and BM-MSCs groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: MDSPCs and BM-MSCs can migrate and incorporate into injured renal tissue, resulting in a beneficial impact on functional and morphological kidney recovery, which is likely mediated by the secretion of paracrine factors and an anti-apoptotic effect. MDSPCs were found to be non-inferior to BM-MSCs and therefore can be considered as a potential candidate strategy for the treatment of AKI.

Optimal glycemic control without the presence of diabetes-related complications is the primary goal for adequate diabetes management. Recent studies have shown that hemoglobin A1c level cannot fully evaluate diabetes management as glycemic fluctuations are demonstrated to have a major impact on the occurrence of diabetes-related micro- and macroangiopathic comorbidities. The use of continuous glycemic monitoring systems allowed the quantification of glycemic fluctuations, providing valuable information about the patients' glycemic control through various indicators that evaluate the magnitude of glycemic fluctuations in different time intervals. This review highlights the significance of glycemic variability by describing and providing a better understanding of common and alternative indicators available for use in clinical practice.

Background and Objective: Placing the laryngoscope blade directly under the epiglottis (known as the direct view (DV) method) during videolaryngoscopy offers a superior view of the glottis when compared to the indirect method of lifting the epiglottis by positioning the Macintosh blade tip over the vallecula. While there are few studies comparing glottic views using Miller and Macintosh blades in pediatric patients, we have not come across such a study in adults. In this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness and hemodynamic responses of the Miller laryngoscope and the McGrath-MAC videolaryngoscope (VL) in visualizing the glottic opening using the DV method. ⋯ The median POGO values according to the DV method were 80% in Group M and 70% in Group VL (p = 0.099). Hemodynamic responses, intubation time, number of attempts, duration of view of the glottis opening, and the need for external laryngeal pressure were similar between the groups. Conclusions: Due to its ability to provide effective intubation conditions, we believe that the McGrath-MAC VL, when used with the indirect view method, can also be utilized in anesthesia practices alongside the DV method.

Background and Objectives: The association between myasthenia gravis (MG) and depression is intricate and characterized by bidirectional causality. In this regard, MG can be a contributing factor to depression and, conversely, depression may worsen the symptoms of MG. This study aimed to identify any differences in the progression of the disease among patients with MG who were also diagnosed with depression as compared to those without depression. ⋯ Disease severity, along with younger age and higher doses of cortisone, is a significant factor associated with depression in patients with MG. Substantial reductions in MG-ADL and QMG scores were observed within each group after six months, highlighting the effectiveness of MG management. The findings suggest that addressing depressive symptoms in MG patients, in addition to standard MG management, can lead to improved clinical outcomes.

Migraine is a prevalent neurological disorder that significantly impacts the quality of life for affected individuals. The pathogenesis behind migraines is not yet fully understood, but hormonal changes, especially fluctuations in, estrogen and progesterone levels, have a significant role in the susceptibility of women to migraines. Pregnancy introduces a unique set of challenges for women who experience migraines, as they must navigate the complexities of managing their condition while safeguarding the health of both them and their unborn child. ⋯ Through collaboration with healthcare providers and the adoption of personalized management strategies, women can strike a balance that supports both their own well-being and the healthy development of their unborn child. By examining existing research and emerging insights, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits and considerations of incorporating physical activity and other treatment options into migraine management strategies for pregnant women. Further research is needed to elucidate the specific mechanisms linking migraines, pregnancy, and physical activity, enabling the development of more targeted interventions and guidelines.
