The incidence of advanced oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers is generally high. Treatment outcomes for patients, especially those unfit for comprehensive cancer treatment, are unsatisfactory. Therefore, the search for factors to predict response to treatment and increase overall survival is underway. ⋯ We found no statistically significant differences but detected trends toward improvement in the survival of HPV-positive and RAD51 overexpressing patients unfit for surgical treatment or chemotherapy treated with hyperfractionated radiotherapy. The trends, however, indicate that in a larger group of patients, the effects of these two parameters would likely be statistically significant.

Background and Objectives: Stroke patients have different levels of functional impairment, and rehabilitation is essential to achieving functional recovery. Many post-stroke patients transition from acute treatment to post-acute care (PAC) with nasogastric tubes (NGTs) for rehabilitation. However, long-term NGT placement can lead to several complications, and its earlier removal can effectively reduce the incidence of mortality. ⋯ Patients' BI scores indicating severe to moderate dependence (21-90) had a 4.55 times greater chance of NGT removal (odds ratio, 4.55; p < 0.05) than patients who had total dependence (<20). Every one-point increase in FOIS score indicated a 3.07 times greater chance of NGT removal (odds ratio, 3.07; p < 0.05). Conclusions: The BI and FOIS evaluations may indicate the probability of NGT removal in patients.

Background and Objectives: Nowadays, indication of composite materials for various clinical situations has increased significantly. However, in the oral environment, these biomaterials are subjected (abnormal occlusal forces, external bleaching, consumption of carbonated beverages, etc.) to changes in their functional and mechanical behavior when indicated primarily for patients with masticatory habits. The study aimed to recreate in our lab one of the most common situations nowadays-in-office activity of a young patient suffering from specific parafunctional occlusal stress (bruxism) who consumes acidic beverages and is using at-home dental bleaching. ⋯ Results: Before mechanical loading, the CBCT analysis revealed substantially fewer interfacial defects between the two resin-based composites (p > 0.05), whereas, after bruxism forces simulation, significantly more defects were identified (p < 0.05). Qualitative examination of the restorations showed more occlusal defects for the Evetric than the other nanohybrid composite. Conclusions: There were different behaviors observed regarding the studied nanocomposites when simulation of parafunctional masticatory forces was associated with aging treatments.

Diabetic kidney disease is the most common primary disease of end-stage kidney disease globally; however, a sensitive and accurate biomarker to predict this disease remains awaited. microRNAs are endogenous single-stranded noncoding RNAs that have intervened in different post-transcriptional regulations of various cellular biological functions. Previous literatures have reported its potential role in the pathophysiology of diabetic kidney disease, including regulation of Transforming Growth Factor-β1-mediated fibrosis, extracellular matrix and cell adhesion proteins, cellular hypertrophy, growth factor, cytokine production, and redox system activation. Urinary microRNAs have emerged as a novel, non-invasive liquid biopsy for disease diagnosis. In this review, we describe the available experimental and clinical evidence of urinary microRNA in the context of diabetic kidney disease and discuss the future application of microRNA in routine practice.

Incidence of Post-Operative Pain following a Single-Visit Pulpectomy in Primary Molars Employing Adaptive, Rotary, and Manual Instrumentation: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Background and Objectives. To differentiate the intensity of postoperative pain after primary molar pulpectomy employing manual instrumentation versus two single-file systems with different kinetics (the XP-Endo shaper file with adaptive instrumentation vs. the Kedo-SG blue file with continuous rotation instrumentation). Materials and Methods. ⋯ The highest post-operative discomfort across the groups was related to the patients who underwent manual instrumentation. Conclusion. In comparison to rotary and manual instrumentation, postoperative pain severity was reduced with adaptive instrumentation.
