Background and Objectives: Proximal radioulnar synostosis (PRUS) is the most frequent congenital forearm disorder, although the prevalence in the general population is rare with a few hundred cases reported. Pfeiffer, Poland, Holt-Oram, and other serious congenital syndromes contain this abnormality. Non-syndromic cases with isolated PRUS very often exhibit as SMAD6, NOG genes variants, or sex chromosome aneuploidy. ⋯ No potentially pathogenic copy number variants were detected by array-based comparative genomic hybridization. Conclusions: In the reported case, the ability of an athlete to deal with an anatomic variant limiting the forearm supination is demonstrated. Nowadays, a comprehensive approach to rule out more complex musculoskeletal impairment and family burden is made possible by evolving genetics.

Background and Objectives: Insufficient intake of essential micronutrient selenium (Se) increases the susceptibility to diseases associated with oxidative stress. The study aim was to assess Se status and oxidative stress in COVID-19 patients depending on severity of the disease. Materials and Methods: Blood plasma of 80 post-COVID-19 disease patients and 40 acutely ill patients were investigated. ⋯ However, in post-COVID-19 disease patients, Se values were close to the low limit of the norm for the European population. 4-HNE adducts concentration as a marker of lipid peroxidation was significantly increased in the acute patients group compared to the recovery group (p < 0.001). Conclusions: COVID-19 pathology is characterized by the induction of oxidative stress and suppression of antioxidant defenses during the acute phase. Lower levels of Se and Sepp1 and higher levels of reactive oxygen species reflect this imbalance, highlighting the role of oxidative stress in the disease's pathogenesis.

Background and Objectives: Macular edema (ME) is a common complication of intermediate uveitis (IU). It is often responsible for a decrease in visual acuity (VA). Three distinct patterns of macular edema have been described in intermediate uveitis, namely, cystoid macular edema (CME), diffuse macular edema (DME), and serous retinal detachment (SRD). ⋯ Results: BCVA was negatively correlated with Ellipsoid Zone (EZ) disruption (p = 0.00021), cystoid pattern (p = 0.00021), central subfield thickness (CST) (p < 0.001), and serous retinal detachment (0.037). Conclusions: In ME secondary to idiopathic IU, VA negatively correlates with Ellipsoid Zone disruption and increases in CST. Moreover, vision is influenced by the presence of cysts in the inner nuclear and outer nuclear layers and by the neuroepithelium detachment.

Background and Objectives: The phase angle, calculated by bioelectrical impedance analysis, can help elucidate the pathology of patients with idiopathic dropped head syndrome (IDHS) and explain the motor dysfunction associated with the horizontal gaze disorder. The aim of this study was to clarify the characteristics of phase angle in IDHS patients and the relationship between the phase angle and the severity of horizontal gaze disorder. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 43 female patients with IDHS and 69 healthy female volunteers. ⋯ Correlation analysis showed significant negative correlations only between McGS and whole-body (r = -0.31, p = 0.043) and lower extremity phase angle (r = -0.39, p = 0.009) in the IDHS group. Conclusions: Abnormal body composition of the lower extremities were observed in IDHS patients. Furthermore, it was suggested that horizontal gaze disorder in IDHS patients is associated with whole-body and lower extremity phase angles.

Effects of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor Treatment on Ovarian Reserves in Patients with Depression.
Background and Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment on the ovarian reserves of women of reproductive age with major depressive disorder. Materials and Methods: The current study is a prospective controlled trial including 48 women with major depressive disorder and 48 age-matched healthy controls. Ovarian reserve tests are performed prior to treatment and after six cycles of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment in the major depressive disorder group. ⋯ Results: When the first measurements were compared, menstrual duration and menstrual bleeding increased (p = 0.007 and 0.005, respectively) and luteinizing hormone decreased (p = 0.045) in the major depressive disorder group, while follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, anti-Müllerian hormone, endometrial thickness, total antral follicle count, and mean ovarian volume did not differ significantly between groups (p > 0.05). When the major depressive disorder group's first and final measurements were compared, follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, and endometrial thickness increased (p = 0.05, 0.0001, and 0.005, respectively), luteinizing hormone remained constant (p = 0.541), and anti-Müllerian hormone and total antral follicle count decreased (p = 0.024 and 0.042, respectively). Conclusions: In this study, we observed that the ovarian reserve test results of patients diagnosed with major depression for the first time after 6 months of SSRI treatment were significantly different from the results of the pretreatment and control groups.
