Background and Objectives: To screen key miRNAs and their target genes related to Toll-like receptor (TLR) activation in gastric cancer (GC) cells and analyze them bioinformatically. Materials and Methods: Venn diagrams were obtained to screen miRNAs that were upregulated/downregulated in both GSE54129 and GSE164174. The miRTarBase database was used to predict the target genes of upregulated miRNAs. ⋯ The results of in vivo experiments indicated that miR-16-5p was highly expressed in gastric cancer cells and tissues. Conclusions: Hsa-miR-16-5p's target genes mainly play a role by regulating the expression of four genes-MCL1, AP2B1, LAMB1, and RAB11FIP2. The findings provide a scientific basis for the development of immunotherapy for GC.

Background and Objectives: Hypercholesterolemia in patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS) may predispose to cardiovascular events and alter kidney function. We aimed to evaluate statins efficiency in NS patients under immunosuppression using four endpoints: remission rate (RR), end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), major cardiovascular events (MACE), and thrombotic complications (VTE). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively examined the outcome at 24 months after diagnosis of 154 NS patients (age 53 (39-64) years, 64% male, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) 61.9 (45.2-81.0) mL/min). ⋯ Conclusions: Statins did not improve the remission rate and did not reduce the risk of MACE or ESKD in non-diabetic nephrotic patients. However, statins seemed to reduce the risk of VTE. Further randomized controlled studies are needed to establish statins' role in NS management.

Background and Objectives: There is no consensus regarding the indications for and timing of ventilation tube (VT) insertion in cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients. Our aim was to search for clinical and surgical (i.e., VT insertion) characteristics that influence the hearing status in CLP. Materials and Methods: We reviewed the hearing outcome of consecutive CLP cases operated on at a single referral center. ⋯ Conclusions: According to our results, the absence of VT insertion at the time of hard palate surgery is an independent prognostic risk factor of hearing loss in CLP patients. Early VT placement in CLP patients may prevent hearing loss and related consequences. These findings should be tested in a large, randomized clinical trial.

Background: Gastric cancer has been ranked the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Its detection at the early stage is difficult because patients mostly experience vague and non-specific symptoms in the early stages. Methods: The RNA-seq datasets of both gastric cancer and normal samples were considered and processed. ⋯ After an implicit atomistic molecular dynamics simulation, we observed that DLC1 is electrostatically optimized, stable, and has a reliable energy frustration landscape, with only a few maximum energy frustrations in the loop regions. It has a good functional and binding affinity mechanism. Conclusions: Our study revealed that DLC1 could be used as a potential druggable target for specific subsets of gastric cancer.

The immune response elicited by the current COVID-19 vaccinations declines with time, especially among the immunocompromised population. Furthermore, the emergence of novel SARS-CoV-2 variants, particularly the Omicron variant, has raised serious concerns about the efficacy of currently available vaccines in protecting the most vulnerable people. Several studies have reported that vaccinated people get breakthrough infections amid COVID-19 cases. ⋯ Hence, amid the emergence of novel variants of SARS-CoV-2, we have discussed their impact on currently available vaccines. We have also discussed the potential roles of S Protein in the development of novel vaccination approaches to contain the negative consequences of the variants' emergence and acquisition of mutations in the S Protein of SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the implications of SARS-CoV-2's structural proteins were also discussed in terms of their variable potential to elicit an effective amount of immune response.
