The Use of Gemtuzumab Ozogamicin as Salvage Therapy in Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Monocentric Real-World Experience.
Background and Objectives: Relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (r/r AML) is a disease with a poor prognosis. Limited treatment options are available in r/r AML. Here, we administered gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO) as salvage therapy in twenty-four patients with r/r AML. ⋯ The 5-year survival rate was 33%. Conclusions: A low dose of GO improved the overall survival and disease-free survival in r/r AML patients. GO treatment had a positive safety profile in terms of toxicity.

Background and objectives: Microbiota of the urinary tract may be associated with urinary tract malignancy, including prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively collected patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer and subjects without prostate cancer from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2016. A total of 5510 subjects were recruited and followed until the diagnosis of a primary outcome (urinary tract infection, pyelonephritis, cystitis, and prostatitis). ⋯ Furthermore, an imbalanced microbiome may facilitate bacterial overgrowth in urine, leading to urinary tract infections. These findings have important implications for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Further research is needed to better understand the role of the urine microbiome in prostate cancer pathogenesis and to identify potential microbiome-targeted therapies for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer.

Background and Objectives: Numerous studies have indicated that antibiotics may adversely affect testicular and sperm function. As an alternative to penicillin, vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic developed to treat resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. A few studies have suggested that vancomycin could cause testicular toxicity and apoptosis. ⋯ Histologically, vancomycin administration for seven days caused damage to testicular tissues and reduced the thickness of the basal lamina. However, the resveratrol administration with vancomycin prevented vancomycin's toxic effects on testicular tissue. Conclusion: Resveratrol showed potential protective effects against vancomycin-induced testicular toxicity in Wistar rats.

Sarcomas are heterogenous mesenchymal neoplasms with more than 80 different histologic subtypes. Lung followed by liver and bone are the most common sites of sarcoma metastatic disease. Ablative techniques have been recently added as an additional alternative curative or palliative therapeutic tool in sarcoma metastatic disease. ⋯ Literature data upon ablative techniques for sarcoma metastatic disease are quite heterogeneous and variable regarding the size and the number of the treated lesions and the different histologic subtypes of the original soft tissue or bone sarcoma. The present study focuses upon the current role of minimal invasive thermal ablative techniques for the management of metastatic sarcoma disease. The purpose of this review is to present the current minimally invasive ablative techniques in the treatment of metastatic soft tissue and bone sarcoma, including local control and survival rates.

Background and Objectives: Music interventions have been used for patients with cancer to meet their psychological, physical, social, and spiritual needs. This review identified the efficacy of music therapy among adult patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Materials and Methods: We searched the PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases. ⋯ Among the seven studies measuring pain as an outcome, four studies (57%) demonstrated that music therapy reduced pain. Three studies (75%) showed that MT reduced anxiety. Conclusions: This systemic review indicates that music therapy might help reduce pain and anxiety for cancer patients, including those with colorectal cancer, who are receiving treatment in palliative care, inpatient care and outpatient care settings.
