Transdermal patches are a non-invasive method of drug administration. It is an adhesive patch designed to deliver a specific dose of medication through the skin and into the bloodstream throughout the body. ⋯ Recently, this method is also being explored as a means of delivering biologics in various applications. Here, we review the existing literatures on the design and usage of medical patches in transdermal drug delivery, with a focus on the recent advances in innovation and technology that led to the emergence of smart, dissolvable/biodegradable, and high-loading/release, as well as 3D-printed patches.

Background and Objectives: Clinically, it is beneficial to determine the knee osteoarthritis (OA) subtype that responds well to conservative treatments. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the differences between varus and valgus arthritic knees in the response to conservative treatment. We hypothesized that valgus arthritic knees would respond better to conservative treatment than varus arthritic knees. ⋯ The thresholds of HKA for varus and valgus arthritic knees for TKA were 4.9° and -8.1°, respectively (varus: area under the ROC curve [AUC] = 0.704, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.666-0.741, p < 0.001, sensitivity = 0.870, specificity = 0.524; valgus: AUC = 0.753, 95% CI 0.693-0.807, p < 0.001, sensitivity = 0.753, specificity = 0.786). Conclusions: Conservative treatment is more effective for valgus than for varus arthritic knees. This should be considered when explaining the prognosis of conservative treatment for knees with varus and valgus arthritis.

Background and Objectives: Triage systems help provide the right care at the right time for patients presenting to emergency departments (EDs). Triage systems are generally used to subdivide patients into three to five categories according to the system used, and their performance must be carefully monitored to ensure the best care for patients. Materials and Methods: We examined ED accesses in the context of 4-level (4LT) and 5-level triage systems (5LT), implemented from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2020. ⋯ The decreased UT trend was observed after implementing the 5LT system. Conversely, a slight rise in OT was reported, although this did not affect the medium-high-intensity care area. Conclusions: Introducing a 5LT improved ED performance and patient care.

Review Meta Analysis
Detection of Prosthetic Loosening in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Using Machine Learning: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background: prosthetic loosening after hip and knee arthroplasty is one of the most common causes of joint arthroplasty failure and revision surgery. Diagnosis of prosthetic loosening is a difficult problem and, in many cases, loosening is not clearly diagnosed until accurately confirmed during surgery. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to demonstrate the analysis and performance of machine learning in diagnosing prosthetic loosening after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ The summary receiver operating characteristics curve indicated the sensitivity and specificity, as did the prediction regions, with an AUC of 0.9853. Conclusions: the performance of machine learning using plain radiography showed promising results with good accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in the detection of loosening around THAs and TKAs. Machine learning can be incorporated into prosthetic loosening screening programs.

Background and Objectives: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally. As survival rates gradually increase, it becomes necessary to assess the quality of life (QoL) after treatment. It is known that different treatment modalities have different effects on QoL. ⋯ Sexual activity and sexual enjoyment of the CCSs were low (11.7 (SD = 16.3), 14.3 (SD = 17.8), respectively). Conclusions: Cervical cancer survivors report a relatively good quality of life regarding symptom experience; however, women following concurrent chemoradiotherapy tend not to be sexually active and rarely feel sexual enjoyment. In addition, this treatment modality negatively affects a woman's body image and self-perception as a woman.
