Background and Objectives: Obesity is a chronic inflammatory condition and is considered a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The effects of obesity management via sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and lifestyle intervention (LS) on inflammatory cytokines, redox status, and CVD risk were studied in this work. Materials and Methods: A total of 92 participants (18 to 60 years old) with obesity (BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2 were divided into two groups: the bariatric surgery (BS) group (n = 30), and the LS group (n = 62). ⋯ The FM loss correlated inversely with FRS-BMI and ASCVD in the BS group, whereas in the WL group, FM loss correlated only with ASCVD. Conclusions: BS produced superior weight and fat mass loss. However, both BS and LS produced a similar reduction in the inflammatory cytokines, relief of OS indicators, and enhancement of antioxidant capacity, and consequently reduced the CVD risk.

Background and Objectives: White spot lesions (WSLs) denote regions of subsurface demineralization on the enamel that manifest as opaque and milky-white regions. Treatment for WSLs is essential for both clinical and aesthetic reasons. Resin infiltration has been identified as the most efficacious solution for alleviating WSLs, but studies with long-term monitoring are scarce. ⋯ Results: When comparing the color difference ΔE (WSLs-SAE) at T0-T1, the Wilcoxon test demonstarated a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). For ΔE (WSLs-SAE) at T1-T2 and T1-T3, the color variation was not statistically significant (p = 0.305 and p = 0.337). Conclusions: The study's findings indicate that the resin infiltration technique is an effective solution for resolving the appearance of WSLs, and the results have demonstrated stability for a minimum of four years.

Background and objectives: Patellar taping has been widely used for the primary or adjunctive treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS); however, there are limited data in terms of functional outcomes. This study aimed to investigate whether there is any beneficial effect of adding Kinesio Taping® (KT) to exercise therapy in the treatment of PFPS. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients (27.5 ± 5.4 years) with PFPS who applied KT and 19 patients (27.3 ± 7.4 years) who did not were included in this study. ⋯ Results: There was no significant difference in quadriceps strength, AT, and AKPS at baseline and at 1 month between the taping and non-taping groups (p > 0.05). However, for quadriceps muscle strength, the effect of time*group interaction was statistically significant (F(1.37) = 4.543, p < 0.05, partial eta squared 0.109), showing that improvement in the quadriceps strength was higher in the non-taping group than that in the taping group. Conclusions: Adding KT to exercise therapy did not elicit extra benefits in quadriceps muscle strength and AT, and AKPS among PFPS with abnormal patellar tracking at one month.

Background and objectives: Recently, rapid progress has been made in the development of noninvasive methods for liver fibrosis assessment. The study aimed to assess the correlation between LSM and serum fibrosis markers to identify patients with advanced liver fibrosis in daily clinical practice. Methods: Between 2017 and 2019, 89 patients with chronic liver disease of various etiology, 58 males and 31 females, were enrolled in the study and underwent ultrasound examination, vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), AST to Platelet Ratio Index (APRI score), Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score, and enhanced liver fibrosis (ELF) test. ⋯ By determining the confidence intervals of the linear model, we proved that patients younger than 38.1 years have a 95% probability of absence of advanced liver fibrosis when assessed by VCTE. Conclusions: We identified APRI and FIB-4 as simple tools for screening liver disease in primary care in an unselected population of patients. The results also showed that individuals younger than 38.1 years had a negligible risk of advanced liver fibrosis.

The Use of PuraStat® in the Management of Walled-Off Pancreatic Necrosis Drained Using Lumen-Apposing Metal Stents: A Case Series.
Background and Objectives: Bleeding is one of the most feared and frequent adverse events in the case of EUS-guided drainage of WOPN using lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMSs) and of direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN). When it occurs, its management is still controversial. In the last few years, PuraStat, a novel hemostatic peptide gel has been introduced, expanding the toolbox of the endoscopic hemostatic agents. ⋯ No PuraStat-related adverse events were reported. Conclusions: This novel peptide gel could represent a promising hemostatic device, both in preventing and managing active bleeding after EUS-guided drainage of WON. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.
