Pregnancy represents a psychologically and emotionally vulnerable period, and research indicates that pregnant women have a higher prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression, debunking the myth that hormonal changes associated with pregnancy protect the mother. In recent years, several researchers have focused on the study of prenatal anxiety/depression-emotional disorders manifested by mood lability and low interest in activities-with a high prevalence. The main objective of this research was to conduct an antenatal screening in a cohort of pregnant women hospitalized for delivery in order to assess the prevalence of anxiety and depression. ⋯ In terms of health behaviors, none of the variables were statistically significant predictors of the outcome variable. The study highlights the importance of monitoring mental health during pregnancy and identifying relevant risk factors to provide appropriate care to pregnant women and the need for interventions to support the mental health of pregnant women. Especially in Romania, where there is no antenatal or postnatal screening for depression or other mental health conditions, these results could be used to encourage the implementation of such screening programs and appropriate interventions.

Background and Objectives: Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences located at the end of chromosomes that play a crucial role in maintaining chromosomal stability. Shortening of telomeres has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the length of telomeres in pregnant women with cardiovascular risk is shorter compared to those without cardiovascular risk. ⋯ Results: The results showed that the telomere length was negatively correlated with cardiovascular risk in pregnant women, with significantly shorter telomeres observed in the cardiovascular risk group (mean telomere length = 0.3537) compared to the group without cardiovascular risk (mean telomere length = 0.5728) (p = 0.0458). Conclusions: These findings suggest that cardiovascular risk during pregnancy may be associated with accelerated telomere shortening, which could have implications for the long-term health of both the mother and the child. Further research is needed to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying this association and to identify interventions that may mitigate the negative effects of cardiovascular risk on the telomere length during pregnancy.

A Strategy for Minimizing Circulatory Arrest Duration in Complex Aortic Arch Procedures.
Background and Objectives: Aortic arch pathologies represent a surgical challenge. The challenge is partly due to the necessity of complex cerebral, visceral, and myocardial protection measures. Aortic arch surgery generally requires a significant duration of circulatory arrest, which includes deep hypothermia levels with the associated sequelae. ⋯ Conclusions: By applying our modified perfusion technique, the circulatory arrest duration was below ten minutes. As a consequence, deep hypothermia could be avoided, and surgery could be performed at moderate hypothermia. Future studies will have to show whether these changes may be translated into a clinical benefit for our patients.

Changes in Nutritional Status during Induction Phase and Their Association with Fever and Minimal Residual Disease in Paediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Background and objectives: Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is associated with a cytokine imbalance and oxidative stress, which can be aggravated by malnutrition. Malnutrition, defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as obesity or undernutrition, can affect treatment complications and outcomes. Therefore, we aimed to analyse the change in the body mass index (BMI) z-score during induction, as well as evaluate the impact of childhood malnutrition on fevers at an ALL presentation and early response to therapy. ⋯ Conclusions: Despite the use of steroids, adolescents are prone to losing weight during an ALL induction, in contrast to preschool children, who tend to gain weight under the same treatment. BMI at diagnosis was related to a fever of ≥38 °C (at ALL presentation) in the 0-5 age group. The results emphasise the importance of careful nutritional status monitoring, with younger and older children as important target groups for weight gain and weight loss interventions, respectively.

Background and Objectives: Diagnostic hysteroscopy is the gold standard in the diagnosis of intrauterine pathology and is becoming an essential tool in the daily practice of gynecology. Training programs for physicians are necessary to ensure adequate preparation and learning curve before approaching patients. The aim of this study was to describe the "Arbor Vitae" method for training in diagnostic hysteroscopy and to test its impact on the knowledge and skills of trainees using a customized questionnaire. ⋯ For 9 of the 10 questions embedded in the questionnaire, there was a significant improvement in the scores between pre- and post-course, demonstrating a perceived significant improvement in theoretical/practical skills by the trainees. Conclusions: The Arbor Vitae training model is a realistic and effective way to improve the theoretical and practical skills required to perform correct diagnostic hysteroscopy. This training model has great potential for novice practitioners to achieve an adequate level of proficiency before performing diagnostic hysteroscopy on live patients.
