Background and Objectives: Heart failure (HF) is a threatening health condition that is associated with an increasing prevalence and high expenses because of frequent patient hospitalizations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors that influence the length of in-hospital stay in HF patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 220 patients (43.2% men), admitted to the Department of Cardiology, Kaunas Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences from the 1st of January 2021 to the 31st of May 2021, were included in this study. ⋯ Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed five predictors as independent factors associated with prolonged hospitalization. These predictors included treatment interruption (OR 3.694; 95% CI 1.080-12.630, p = 0.037), higher value of NT-proBNP (OR 3.352; 95% CI 1.468-7.659, p = 0.004), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≤ 50 mL/min/1.73 m2 (OR 2.423; 95% CI 1.090-5.383, p = 0.030), systolic blood pressure (BP) ≤ 135 mmHg (OR 3.100; 95% CI 1.421-6.761, p = 0.004) and severe tricuspid valve regurgitation (OR 2.473; 95% CI 1.086-5.632, p = 0.031). Conclusions: Several variables were identified as significant clinical predictors for prolonged length of in-hospital stay in HF patients where treatment interruption, higher NT-proBNP value and lower systolic BP at admission were the most important.

Background and Objectives: Dry eye disease (DED) is a common and very symptomatic pathology that affects normal daily activity. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) added to one routine treatment protocol for DED (artificial tears substitutes, lid hygiene, and anti-inflammatory therapy). Materials and Methods: Patients were divided into two groups of treatment: standard treatment group (n = 43 eyes) and PRGF group (n = 59). ⋯ No significant changes were found in terms of ocular surface damage. No adverse events were obtained in either group. Conclusions: The addition of PRGF to the standard treatment of DED, according to the results obtained, proved to be safe and produced an improvement in ocular symptomatology and signs of inflammation, particularly in moderate and severe cases, when compared to standard treatment.

Background and Objectives: The necessity for less invasive and patient-friendly surgical therapies guided the development of the "minimally invasive surgical technique" (MIST). The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the efficacy of MIST for soft tissue management considering aesthetic results, postoperative morbidity, and clinical outcomes. Materials and Methods: Several databases were used to conduct a thorough analysis of the scientific evidence. ⋯ Considering aesthetic appearance, slightly more than half of the clinical trials also showed improved results with MIST. Likewise, regarding postoperative morbidity, 60% of the clinical trials also described better scores with MIST. All of this indicates that MIST is a good alternative for the management of soft tissues.

Background and Objectives: To date, sparse evidence exists about the impact of inflammatory serum markers in predicting perioperative complications after radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer (BC). Here, we evaluated the role of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), C-reactive protein (CRP), and plasma fibrinogen in predicting perioperative morbidity and unplanned 30-days readmission after RC for BC. Materials and methods: We relied on a collaborative database of 271 patients who underwent open RC for cT1-4a N0 M0 BC between January 2012 and December 2022. ⋯ Conclusions: In our study, the preoperative immune-inflammation signature described by NLR, PLR, LMR, SII, and CRP showed a low reliability in predicting perioperative course after RC. Preoperative anemia and hyperfibrinogenemia were independent predictors of major complications. Further studies are pending in order to draw definitive conclusions.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of three types of electronic apex locators (EALs) when two different concentrations of NaOCl irrigation solutions are used by two operators. Materials and Methods: After creating the access cavities for 20 single rooted extracted teeth, the actual canal length (ACL) of each canal was determined visually using a #10 file and magnification. The teeth were subsequently inserted in plastic molds filled with alginate. ⋯ Results: In the presence of 2% NaOCl solution, for a margin error of ±0.5 mm, Root ZX II, Apex ID, and Dual Pex presented an accuracy of 90%, 80%, and 85% respectively. The increase in the concentration of the irrigation solution affected the accuracy of Root ZX II and Apex ID for both operators, diminishing it to 75% for the same margin error, but improved Dual Pex's accuracy to 100%. Conclusions: The best accuracy in working length determination was obtained by Root ZX II for 2% NaOCl solution and by Dual Pex for 5.25% NaOCl solution with no significant statistical difference when compared.
