Background and Objectives: Kidneys are one of the main targets for SARS-CoV-2. Early recognition and precautionary management are essential in COVID-19 patients due to the multiple origins of acute kidney injury and the complexity of chronic kidney disease management. The aims of this research were to investigate the association between COVID-19 infection and renal injury in a regional hospital. ⋯ Patients with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease complicated by acute kidney injury died 7.81 and 3.66 times (p < 0.001) more often than patients with chronic kidney disease alone. The mortality rate among patients with acute kidney injury was 7.79 (p < 0.001) times higher than among patients without these diseases. Conclusions: COVID-19 patients who developed acute kidney injury and whose chronic kidney disease was complicated by acute kidney injury had a longer hospital stay and were more likely to die.

Observational Study
Evaluation of Ocular Diameter Parameters Using Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography.
Purpose: To investigate the iridocorneal angle-to-angle (ATA), sclera spur-to-sclera spur (STS), and white-to-white (WTW) ocular diameters and their potential influence on anterior chamber intraocular lens (ACIOL) and implantable collamer lens (ICL) sizing in Chinese subjects by using a swept-source optical coherence tomography system (SS-OCT). Design: A retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study. Methods: In 60 right eyes (60 subjects), the ATA, STS, and WTW were measured in six axes (0°-180°, 30°-210°, 60°-240°, 90°-270°, 120°-300°, and 150°-330°) using SS-OCT. ⋯ ATA, STS, and WTW correlated positively in the same axis (all p < 0.001). Conclusions: ATA and STS were longer in the vertical than in the horizontal direction, while WTW measurements remained similar. ATA and STS diameters more accurately depicted anatomic relationships for phakic IOL sizing than WTW.

Background and Objectives: Tadalafil is expected to treat fetal growth restriction (FGR), a risk factor for stillbirth and neonatal morbidity. This study aimed to evaluate the fetal biometric growth pattern of fetuses with FGR treated with tadalafil by ultrasonographic assessment. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study. ⋯ The number of cases with an abnormal score of less than 70 on the KSPD test was 19% for P-M, 8% for C-A, 19% for L-S, and 11% for total area at 1.5 years CA. At 3 years old, the respective scores were 16%, 21%, 16%, and 16%. Conclusions: Tadalafil treatment for FGR may maintain fetal HC growth and infants' neuro-developmental prognosis.

Diabetic retinopathy is a form of diabetic microangiopathy, and vascular hyperpermeability in the macula leads to retinal thickening and concomitant reduction of visual acuity in diabetic macular edema (DME). In this review, we discuss multimodal fundus imaging, comparing the pathogenesis and interventions. Clinicians diagnose DME using two major criteria, clinically significant macular edema by fundus examination and center-involving diabetic macular edema using optical coherence tomography (OCT), to determine the appropriate treatment. ⋯ The disorganization of retinal inner layers (DRIL) and foveal photoreceptor damage, biomarkers of neurodegeneration, are associated with visual impairment. Fundus autofluorescence derives from the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and its qualitative and quantitative changes suggest that the RPE damage contributes to the neuronal changes in DME. These clinical findings on multimodal imaging help to elucidate the pathology in the neurovascular units and lead to the next generation of clinical and translational research in DME.

Background and Objectives: Endoscopic sinus surgery is considered the gold management strategy for difficult-to-treat chronic rhinosinusitis. The inflammatory bony process is incriminated as being involved in the unfavorable evolution and recurrence of the disease. Osteitis is significantly increased in patients that have been previously submitted to surgery, and it is more often present in patients with extended radiological disease and in patients undergoing revision surgery. ⋯ There was a direct correlation between the severity of inflammation and neo-osteogenesis, with a statistical significance of p = 0.050. Low-pressure spray cryotherapy was safe and effective in reducing inflammation (p = 0.020) and osteitis (p = 0.000) with a safety profile. Conclusions: Low-pressure cryotherapy reduces the severity of mucosal inflammation and osteitis in lesion-induced neo-osteogenesis.
