Review Case Reports
Impaired Cardiomyocyte Maturation Leading to DCM: A Case Report and Literature Review.
Background: The maturation of cardiomyocytes is a rapidly evolving area of research within the field of cardiovascular medicine. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiomyocyte maturation is essential to advancing our knowledge of the underlying causes of cardiovascular disease. Impaired maturation can lead to the development of cardiomyopathy, particularly dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). ⋯ Conclusions: This study reports a rare case of DCM with myocardial non-compaction caused by the allelic collapse of the ACTN2 and RYR2 genes. This case provides the first human validation of the critical role of cardiomyocyte maturation in maintaining cardiac function and stability and confirms the key findings of previous experimental research conducted by our group. This report emphasizes the connection between genes involved in regulating the maturation of cardiomyocytes and the development of cardiomyopathy.

Background and Objectives: We aimed to assess the effect of AST/ALT ratio on echocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) parameters after COVID-19 patients recover. Materials and Methods: 87 patients with COVID-19 were included in the study. The patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia, but the patients did not need intensive care unit follow-up or non-invasive mechanical ventilation support. ⋯ Right ventricle stroke volume and right ventricle ejection fraction were significantly lower in patients with high AST/ALT ratio, but right ventricle end systolic volume was significantly higher in patients with high AST/ALT ratio. Conclusion: High AST/ALT ratio is related to impaired right ventricular function parameters with CMRI and echocardiography after recovery from acute COVID-19. Assessment of AST/ALT ratio at hospital admission may be used to assess the risk of cardiac involvement in COVID-19 disease, and these patients may require closer follow-up during and after the course of COVID-19.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate lifestyle, menopausal symptoms, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sleep disorders in post-menopausal women throughout the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the impact of menopause hormonal therapy (HT). Materials and Methods: Post-menopausal women were given the following questionnaires: socio-demographic characteristics; lifestyle; history of COVID-19; menopause-specific quality of life (MENQOL), the first part of which refers to the pre-pandemic period ("pre COVID-19") and the second refers to the current period ("during COVID-19"); Beck's depression inventory (BDI); the impact of event scale-revised (IES-R); and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Results: One hundred and twenty-six women completed all questionnaires, with a mean age of 55.5 ± 6.0 years. ⋯ Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic caused reduced physical activity, worsened food habits and weight gain in post-menopausal women. They also reported a high rate of severe-moderate PTSD and a negative influence on their romantic relationships. Menopausal HT seems to be a potential protective factor for sexual and physical status and for symptoms of depression.

Review Meta Analysis
Influence of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures by Surgical Versus Conservative Management in Adult Ankle Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and Objective: This meta-analysis was performed to compare the effectiveness of surgical treatment and conservative treatment in adult ankle fractures. Methods: Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane-Library databases were searched to retrieve prospective randomized-controlled studies that compared the efficacy of surgical treatment and conservative treatment in adult ankle fractures. The meta package in R language was used to organize and analyze the obtained data. ⋯ The MD of SF12-mental data at six months after meta-analysis was -0.81 (95% CI: -1.22; 0.39), and the MD of SF12-mental data at 12+ months was -0.81 (95% CI: -1.22; 0.39). There was no significant difference in SF12-mental results between the two treatment methods after six months, but after 12 months, the SF12-mental results of patients receiving surgical treatment were significantly lower than those of conservative treatment. Conclusions: In the treatment of adult ankle fractures, surgical treatment is more efficacious than conservative treatment in improving early and long-term joint function and physical health of patients, but it is associated with long-term adverse mental health.

Liver cancer is very frequent, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for the majority of liver cancer cases. Its growing incidence has been greatly affected by the increasing prevalence of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The latter is a new epidemic in our era. ⋯ The latter needs further data. The TIPS is a useful and safe add-on treatment, changing the natural course of HCC progression. Its use is regulated by a sophisticated physiologic and pathophysiologic flow of evidence.
