Congenital myopathies (CMs) are a group of diseases that primarily affect the muscle fiber, especially the contractile apparatus and the different components that condition its normal functioning. They present as muscle weakness and hypotonia at birth or during the first year of life. Centronuclear CM is characterized by a high incidence of nuclei located centrally and internally in muscle fibers. ⋯ The patient meets most of the description for CM, with involvement of all striated muscles, although it is important to note the neurogenic pattern present in this case, due to the denervation of damaged muscle fibers, which contain terminal axonal segments. Neuroconduction shows the involvement of motor nerves, but with normal sensory studies, axonal polyneuropathy is unlikely, due to normal sensory potentials. Different pathological findings have been described depending on the mutated gene in this disease, but all coincide with the presence of fibers with central nuclei for diagnosis by this means, which is so important in institutions where it is not possible to carry out genetic studies, and allowing early specific treatment, according to the stage through which the patient passes.

The assessment of liver function is crucial in predicting the risk of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) in patients undergoing liver resection, especially in cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) which is often associated with cirrhosis. There are currently no standardized criteria for predicting the risk of PHLF. Blood tests are often the first- and least invasive expensive method for assessing hepatic function. ⋯ To improve the predictive power of the PHLF of these models, it has been proposed to combine them into a new score, such as the ALBI-APRI score. In conclusion, blood test scores may be combined to achieve a better predictive value of PHLF. However, even if combined, they may not be sufficient to evaluate liver function and to predict PHLF; thus, the inclusion of dynamic and imaging tests such as liver volumetry and ICG r15 may be helpful to potentially improve the predictive capacity of these models.

Plurigin Ovules and Plurigin Solution in the Treatment of Vulvovaginal Atrophy in Menopausal Women: A Retrospective Monocentric Observational Study.
Background and Objectives: Vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) is a condition that affects a large number of women and can significantly impact their quality of life. While several treatments are currently available for VVA, there are potential risks associated with their use. Non-hormonal medical devices have been developed to treat VVA, offering a potential alternative to traditional hormone-based therapies. ⋯ Moreover, the percentage of patients reporting dyspareunia, burning, and irritation decreased over the course of the study, with the majority of patients reporting no symptoms at follow-up 3. Conclusions: The use of Plurigin Ovules plus Plurigin Solution may be an effective treatment option for VVA, improving vaginal health, alleviating symptoms, and improving sexual function, leading to improved quality of life for women suffering from this condition. However, the study has limitations, such as its retrospective nature, and further studies are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of these devices.

Objective. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of clinical trials related to alcohol dependence that are registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. Methods. ⋯ Conclusions. The purpose of this review is to provide a basis for the treatment of alcohol dependence and prevention of its onset through an overview of clinical trials registered at ClinicalTrials.gov. It also offers essential information for future research to guide future studies.

Nucleoside analogs are frequently used in the control of viral infections and neoplastic diseases. However, relatively few studies have shown that nucleoside analogs have antibacterial and antifungal activities. In this study, a fused pyrimidine molecule, uridine, was modified with various aliphatic chains and aromatic groups to produce new derivatives as antimicrobial agents. ⋯ Structure-activity relationship (SAR) investigation indicated that acyl chains, CH3(CH2)10CO-, (C6H5)3C-, and C2H5C6H4CO-, combined with deoxyribose, were most effective against the tested bacterial and fungal pathogens. Pharmacokinetic predictions were examined to determine their ADMET characteristics, and the results in silico were intriguing. Finally, the synthesized uridine derivatives demonstrated increased medicinal activity and high potential for future antimicrobial/anticancer agent(s).
