Transplant oncology is a relatively new field in which transplantation is used to treat patients who would otherwise be unresectable. New anticancer treatment paradigms using tumor and transplant immunology and cancer immunogenomics are emerging. ⋯ Although there are established criteria for LT in HCC, evidence regarding LT as a treatment modality for certain gastrointestinal malignancies is still debated. The aim of this review is to highlight updates in the role of LT for certain malignancies, including HCC, metastatic CRC, hilar CCA, and neuroendocrine tumor (NET), as well as contextualize LT use and discuss controversies in transplant oncology.

Background and Objective: The tongue mucosa often changes due to various local and systemic diseases or conditions. This study aimed to investigate whether deep learning can help detect abnormal regions on the dorsal tongue surface in patients and healthy adults. Materials and Methods: The study collected 175 clinical photographic images of the dorsal tongue surface, which were divided into 7782 cropped images classified into normal, abnormal, and non-tongue regions and trained using the VGG16 deep learning model. ⋯ Results: The F1-scores of the abnormal and normal classes were 0.960 (precision: 0.935, recall: 0.986) and 0.968 (precision: 0.987, recall: 0.950), respectively, in the prediction of the VGG16 model. As a result of evaluation using point mapping segmentation, the average F1-scores were 0.727 (precision: 0.717, recall: 0.737) and 0.645 (precision: 0.650, recall: 0.641), the average intersection of union was 0.695 and 0.590, and the average precision was 0.940 and 0.890, respectively, for abnormal and normal classes. Conclusions: The deep learning algorithm used in this study can accurately determine abnormal areas on the dorsal tongue surface, which can assist in diagnosing specific diseases or conditions of the tongue mucosa.

Background and Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate whether Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infections of arteriovenous grafts (AVGs) recur more frequently than other bacterial infections following treatment with revision. Materials and Methods: Operative procedures, including total excision, subtotal excision, and revision, were performed on 60 patients to treat 65 AVG infections. Final outcomes were classified as no infection recurrence, infection recurrence, and death without prior recurrence. ⋯ No other variables were significantly associated with infection recurrence. Conclusions: For subtotal resection and revision, AVGs infected with PA had a higher recurrence rate than those infected with other species. However, revision surgery may aggravate the recurrence rate.

Objective: The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) can be helpful both in demonstrating acute and chronic liver injury and predicting malignant potential. The mean platelet volume (MPV) is also a marker that can be used as a risk indicator in atherosclerosis-associated diseases, reflecting inflammation. Within the scope of this research, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between the mean platelet volume and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B patients. ⋯ The correlation analysis revealed a statistically significant relationship between the chronicity index and the mean platelet volume to lymphocyte ratio (MPVL). However, considering the degree of the relationship, it can be said that it was a positive and weak relationship (p = 0.046, r = 0.218). Conclusions: Regarding the outcomes of this research, a significant relationship was found between the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume, and fibrosis.

Background and Objectives: Magnetic stimulation is a type of conservative treatment of urinary incontinence. Our aim was to evaluate the possible side effects of this method. Materials and Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review. ⋯ There was no significant difference in the incidence of side effects between the sham and active treatment groups. Conclusions: Side effects of magnetic stimulation in comparison to other active treatments are minimal and transient. Among the conservative UI treatment methods, magnetic stimulation is one of the safest methods for the patient and as such a suitable first step in treating UI.
