Background and Objectives: The global population is undergoing rapid aging, resulting in an increase in geriatric syndromes and hidden health issues such as elder abuse. However, the prevalence of elder abuse varies across different settings. The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence and factors associated with elder abuse at the outpatient department of a super-tertiary care hospital in northern Thailand. ⋯ However, only a smaller subset of study participants, comprising five individuals or 2.38%, met the diagnostic criteria for elder abuse. Furthermore, statistical analysis revealed no significant correlation between elder abuse and the other factors examined in the study. Conclusions: As a result, it is crucial for hospitals to consider preventive measures and implement routine screening protocols.

Background and Objectives: This study confirms the possibility of using Rhus verniciflua Stokes (RVS) extract as a natural treatment for oral candidiasis. Materials and Methods: RVS was extracted with 70% ethanol to examine the antioxidant activity through polyphenol, flavonoid content, and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). To evaluate the antifungal effect against Candida albicans (C. albicans; KCTC 7965/ATCC 10231) and evaluate the stability of RVS, a water-soluble tetrazolium salt (WST-1) assay was performed in human keratinocytes (HaCaT). ⋯ The WST-1 assay showed that the RVS extract induced low cell viability in the HaCaT cells, which inhibited their proliferation, and the RVS extract is also toxic to normal cells. Conclusions: Although the RVS extract with high antioxidant activity showed clear antifungal activity against C. albicans, it exhibited a low survival rate. Therefore, the development of a safe natural antibiotic is necessary.

Background and Objectives: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a significant risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Timely treatment during the NASH stage is essential to minimize the possibility of disease progression to HCC. Cuproptosis is a newly identified form of cellular death that could impact the progression of various diseases and cancers. ⋯ Our experimental results show that FDX1 expression was significantly increased in NASH patients. Conclusions: The present study identified key CRGs, revealing their potential impact on NASH and HCC. Meanwhile, targeting FDX1 may prevent the progression of NASH to HCC.

Background and Objectives: Triclosan-coated sutures (antibacterial sutures) can reduce the risk of postoperative surgical site infection. This study aimed to investigate the effect of intraoperative factors, including antibacterial sutures, on the risk of postpartum septic complications. Materials and Methods: The prospective study included patients who underwent caesarean section. ⋯ Conclusions: Using antibacterial sutures during caesarean section does not affect the incidence of postpartum septic complications. Instrumental uterine examination during caesarean section increases the risk of post-caesarean endometritis and is, therefore, not recommended. Haemoglobin level on the 3rd-4th postoperative day, rather than the estimated blood loss during surgery, affects the development of postpartum septic complications.

Background and Objectives: Hypertensive heart disease, especially left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), is considered to be one of the main types hypertension-mediated organ damage. Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine which method of measuring BP (office BP measurement (OBPM), 24 h ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM), or home BP monitoring (HBPM)), can be better correlated with echocardiographic LVH in the untreated hypertensive population. Materials and Methods: This study's population consisted of 202 patients 58 ± 15 years old (40.8% males). ⋯ The majority (59.3%) had non-dipping status, 20.4% had a reverse dipping pattern, 13% had a dipping pattern, and only 7.3% had extreme dipping BP. Conclusions: Out-of-office BP measurement devices seemed to be superior compared to in-office. This advantage is highlighted by better correlations in the identification of LVH as well as the diagnosis of masked hypertension, a condition also highly correlated with LVH.
