Background and Objectives: Chronic sinusitis is a commonly encountered diagnosis for otorhinolaryngologists. The profound negative effect of rhinosinusitis on patients' quality of life is frequently overlooked, and surgical lines of treatment are numerous. The aim of the study was to assess the comparative efficacy of endoscopic middle meatal antrostomy with the endoscopic prelacrimal recess approach, combined with middle meatal antrostomy in the treatment of unilateral chronic maxillary sinus lesion. ⋯ Conclusions: Achieving endoscopic access to the sinus's anterior, lateral, inferior, and inferomedial regions is facilitated by operating via the prelacrimal recess, which is the most advantageous approach. This approach facilitates rapid mucosal healing by maintaining the integrity of the nasolacrimal duct and mucosal covering. The specific pathology, surgical objectives, surgeon expertise, and equipment accessibility influence the choice of endoscopic surgical technique.

Analyzing the Clinical Potential of Stromal Vascular Fraction: A Comprehensive Literature Review.
Background: Regenerative medicine is evolving with discoveries like the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), a diverse cell group from adipose tissue with therapeutic promise. Originating from fat cell metabolism studies in the 1960s, SVF's versatility was recognized after demonstrating multipotency. Comprising of cells like pericytes, smooth muscle cells, and, notably, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), SVF offers tissue regeneration and repair through the differentiation and secretion of growth factors. ⋯ This rigorous methodology provides a framework for a thorough and systematic analysis of the existing literature on SVF, offering robust insights into the potential of this important cell population in regenerative medicine. Conclusions: Our review reveals the potential of SVF, a heterogeneous cell mixture, as a powerful tool in regenerative medicine. SVF has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy and safety across disciplines, improving pain, tissue regeneration, graft survival, and wound healing while exhibiting immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of cerebrovascular pathology in patients with chronic kidney disease and its effect on functional outcomes. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective cross-sectional study (2018-2021), the medical records of patients with acute hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke with concomitant chronic kidney disease who received treatment in Riga East University Hospital Stroke Unit were analyzed. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 26.0. ⋯ On average, 34.0% of ischemic stroke patients had an mRS score of 5 on admission, while in the hemorrhagic stroke patient group, this figure was 41%. There was no statistical difference in the glomerular filtration rate between the thrombolyzed versus non-thrombolyzed patient groups (Mann-Whitney U test = 1457, p = 0.794). Conclusions: Chronic kidney disease is an important predictor of the severity and functional outcome of a stroke; furthermore, the early management and prevention of complications should be a top priority in the prophylaxis of this cerebrovascular pathology.

Malignant distal biliary obstructions are becoming increasingly common, especially in patients with cancers of the pancreatic head, despite progress in medical oncology research. ERCP is the current gold standard for management of such strictures, but the emergence of EC-LAMS has rendered EUS-CDS both safe and efficient. It is a "game changer"; originally intended for ERCP failure, two randomised clinical trials recently proposed EUS-CDS as a first-intent procedure in palliative settings. For resectable diseases, the absence of iatrogenic pancreatitis associated with a lower rate of postsurgical adverse events (compared with ERCP) leads us to believe that EUS-CDS might be used in first-intent as a pre-operative endoscopic biliary drainage.

Neuroscience applied to motor activity is a growing area that aims to understand the effects of motor activity on the structures and functions of the Central Nervous System. Attention has been paid to this multidisciplinary field of investigation by the scientific community both because it is of great importance in the treatment of many chronic diseases and because of its potential applications in the Movement Sciences. Motor activity during a developmental age is, in fact, an indispensable tool for the physical and mental growth of children, both able-bodied and disabled. ⋯ This literature review aims, therefore, to highlight how an adequate practice of motor activity offers extraordinary possibilities for everyone in relation to learning, from the perspective of an integral development of the person, and, consequently, can raise the awareness of those involved in the training and growth, especially the youngest, towards the educational value of motor and sports activities. According to this review, and in line with the modern neuroscientific approach toward the relationships between motor activities and cognitive functions, it is possible to claim that hypokinesia tends to inhibit learning. Therefore, it now seems more topical than ever to draw attention to the need to introduce working proposals that integrate brain-based motor activity programs into the school curriculum.
