Background and Objectives: Severe adult-onset eosinophilic asthma and COPD with eosinophilic inflammation are two entities with a similar clinical course and are sometimes difficult to differentiate in clinical practice, especially in patients with a history of smoking. Anti-IL-5 or -IL-5R biological therapy has been shown to be highly effective in severe eosinophilic asthma but has not demonstrated significant benefit in patients with COPD with the eosinophilic phenotype. Our aim was to illustrate this issue in the form of a case report. ⋯ Results: The patient's evolution was favorable; clinical remission was effectively achieved with significant improvement in lung function (FEV1 > 100%), but with persistence of residual mild fixed airway obstructive dysfunction (FEV1/FVC < 0.7). The therapeutic response has been maintained to date. Conclusions: Benralizumab was shown to be very effective in a patient with late-onset severe eosinophilic asthma presenting features of chronic obstructive disease-habitual exposure to tobacco and inhaled noxious substances, and persistent airflow limitation on spirometry.

Background and Objectives: The significant prevalence of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), erectile dysfunction (ED), and associated adverse effects calls for increased attention in primary care settings. In Greece, there is a lack of sufficient data for LUTS and ED screening in primary care. Therefore, the aim of our study was to estimate the prevalence of LUTS and ED, identify associated risk factors, and evaluate their impact on quality of life among adult primary healthcare users aged 40 years and older in Crete, Greece. ⋯ Patients with LUTS also had a substantially increased likelihood of experiencing ED. Moreover, it was observed that women with hypertension or diabetes type 2 and lower education levels face an increased likelihood of developing LUTS, which adversely affects their quality of life. Conclusions: In conclusion, the findings of this study reveal a high occurrence of LUTS and ED in adults aged 40 years and older who utilize primary healthcare services, with a negative impact on their quality of life.

Bacteria belonging to the genus Capnocytophaga are thin, capnophilic, Gram-negative bacilli with tapered ends that include nine species that are isolated from the mouth of humans and animals and, from a phylogenetical perspective, they belong to the family Flavobacteriaceae. Two more species, namely C. endodontalis and C. stomatis have been recovered from a periapical abscess and human and animal infections, respectively. Capnocytophaga spp. can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections in humans, such as bacteremia and meningitis, most commonly in the context of penetrating trauma as a result of contact with animals, especially after animal bites. ⋯ Beta-lactams and aminoglycosides were the antimicrobials most commonly used. Surgery was performed in 20 patients (64.5%). Overall mortality reached 16.1%.

Background: Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) has been increasingly recognized as a public health concern due to its prevalence and potential to induce long-term cognitive impairment. We aimed to consolidate this observation by focusing on findings of neuropsychological assessments, neuroimaging, risk factors, and potential strategies for intervention to prevent and treat mTBI-associated cognitive impairments. Methods: A thorough search of PubMed, PsycINFO, and Embase databases was performed for studies published until 2024. ⋯ The efficacy of interventions, including cognitive rehabilitation and pharmaceutical treatment, varied across studies. Conclusions: Mild TBI can lead to significant long-term cognitive impairments, impacting an individual's quality of life. Further research is necessary to validate and standardize cognitive assessment tools post-mTBI, to elucidate the underlying neural mechanisms, and to optimize therapeutic interventions.
