A Novel Technique for Basilar Invagination Treatment in a Patient with Klippel-Feil Syndrome: A Clinical Example and Brief Literature Review.
Objectives and Background: To present a novel technique of treatment for a patient with basilar invagination. Basilar invagination (BI) is a congenital condition that can compress the cervicomedullary junction, leading to neurological deficits. Severe cases require surgical intervention, but there is debate over the choice of approach. ⋯ Conclusions: Basilar invagination alongside Klippel-Feil syndrome represents a relatively uncommon condition. Utilizing a posterior approach for treating reducible BI with a C-arm-free technique proved to be a safe method in addressing severe myelopathy. This novel navigation technique yields excellent outcomes for patients with BI.

Background and Objectives: The clinical relevance of "corona phlebectatica" and the management of risk factors for recurrence of venous ulcers in patients with chronic venous disease may be variable based on vascular specialists in different geographical areas of Italy. The aim of the present survey is to evaluate the management of patients with chronic venous disease by vascular specialists in different areas of the national territory. In particular, this involves ascertaining the clinical/prognostic relevance attributed to the presence of the "corona phlebectatica" as well as to the management of risk factors related to recurrence of venous ulcers. ⋯ Conclusions: Accordingly with the results of this self-assessment survey, the skills and experience of the specialists involved appear to be of a good standard, both in the clinical evaluation and in the management of the progression of chronic venous disease. However, the need to reach more cultural insights into the correlations between chronic venous disease and risk factors correlated with disease progression emerges. Moreover, there was the need for a greater and tighter overall clinical control of a patient with chronic venous disease, also in relation to the presence of comorbidities.

A Comprehensive Review: Robot-Assisted Treatments for Gait Rehabilitation in Stroke Patients.
Robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) is at the cutting edge of stroke rehabilitation, offering a groundbreaking method to improve motor recovery and enhance the quality of life for stroke survivors. This review investigates the effectiveness and application of various RAGT systems, including both end-effector and exoskeleton robots, in facilitating gait enhancements. The selection process for this comprehensive analysis involved a meticulous review of the literature from databases such as PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and EMBASE, focusing on studies published between 2018 and 2023. ⋯ The focus of these studies was on the various RAGT systems and their role in promoting gait and balance improvements. The results of these studies conclusively show that patients experience significant positive effects from RAGT, and when combined with other physiotherapy methods, the outcomes are notably superior in enhancing functional ambulation and motor skills. This review emphasizes RAGT's capability to deliver a more customized and effective rehabilitation experience, highlighting the importance of tailoring interventions to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Postoperative Pain Following Eye Enucleation: A Prospective Observational Study.
Background and Objectives: Enucleation of an eye is the most invasive procedure in ophthalmologic surgery. It can be the result of various diseases (malignant/chronic/trauma/infection) and is nevertheless relatively rare, but leads to the loss of a strongly innervated neuronal organ. This study systematically evaluates postoperative pain levels following enucleation of the eye globe. ⋯ Conclusions: Patients undergoing eye enucleation report pain sensations in need of intervention in this university hospital. Thus, effective standardized pain treatment concepts are now a high priority to be established in an interdisciplinary manner containing standardized regimens and continuous regional procedures. Awareness of this problem in the medical team should be sharpened through targeted training and information.

Background and Objectives: Achieving prefracture functional status is a critical objective following a hip fracture, yet fewer than half of patients reach this milestone. The adoption of tools for assessing functional outcomes is increasingly recognized as essential for evaluating recovery following treatment for fragility hip fractures. We developed multivariable clinical prediction criteria to estimate the likelihood of patients regaining their prefracture activities-of-daily-living (ADL) status one year after sustaining a fragility hip fracture. ⋯ Patients and caregivers can also be counseled and encouraged to follow up with the medical activities and interventions deemed essential by doctors who used the prediction tool. Access to the model is provided through a web application. External validation is warranted in order to prove its applicability and generalizability.
