Up to 70-80% of women of reproductive age may be affected with the most common uterine tumors, known as fibroids or myomas. These benign tumors are the second most prevalent cause of surgery among premenopausal women. Predictions show that the occurrence of myomas in pregnancy will increase, and that the risk of having myomas during pregnancy increases with advanced maternal age. ⋯ A new surgical procedure for removing fibroids using a trans-endometrial approach, which involves making an incision through the decidua itself, has put into doubt the long-standing practice of cesarean myomectomy (CM) with a trans-serosal approach. Some authors have recently advocated for this last approach, highlighting its advantages and potential uses in real-world situations. The purpose of this paper is to critique the present approach to cesarean myomectomy by analyzing the clinical and surgical distinctions between the two approaches and providing illustrations of the CM methods.

Background and Objectives: The European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equation has been newly proposed for estimating glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) across the spectrum of age. We compared the EKFC equation with the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations in a large-scale Korean population. Materials and Methods: Using the representative Korean health examination data, the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES 2008-2021), the records of 91,928 subjects (including 9917 children) were analyzed. ⋯ Conclusions: This large-scale study demonstrates that the EKFC equation would be applicable across the entire age spectrum in Asian populations. It also underscores that national kidney health would be highly affected by an eGFR equation being implemented. Additional investigation and more caution would be warranted for the transition of eGFR equations.

Background and Objectives: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has become an essential instrument in the study of cardiomyopathies; it has recently been integrated into the diagnostic workflow for cardiac amyloidosis (CA) with remarkable results. An additional emerging role is the stratification of the arrhythmogenic risk by scar analysis and the possibility of merging these data with electro-anatomical maps. This is made possible by using a software (ADAS 3D, Galgo Medical, Barcelona, Spain) able to provide 3D heart models by detecting fibrosis along the whole thickness of the myocardial walls. ⋯ Our analysis shows the feasibility and applicability of such instrument for all types of CA. We could not only differentiate between different layers of scars, but we were also able to identify the presence of fibrosis channels among the different scar zones. None of the data derived from the ADAS 3D software seemed to be related to cardiac events in the follow-up, but this might be imputable to the restricted number of patients enrolled in the study.

Nutritional and Lifestyle Features in a Mediterranean Cohort: An Epidemiological Instrument for Categorizing Metabotypes Based on a Computational Algorithm.
Background and Objectives: Modern classification and categorization of individuals' health requires personalized variables such as nutrition, physical activity, lifestyle, and medical data through advanced analysis and clustering methods involving machine learning tools. The objective of this project was to categorize Mediterranean dwellers' health factors and design metabotypes to provide personalized well-being in order to develop professional implementation tools in addition to characterizing nutritional and lifestyle features in such populations. Materials and Methods: A two-phase observational study was conducted by the Pharmacists Council to identify Spanish nutritional and lifestyle characteristics. ⋯ In addition, five metabotype models were developed based on 26 variables: Westernized Millennial (28.6%), healthy (25.1%), active Mediterranean (16.5%), dysmetabolic/pre-morbid (11.5%), and metabolically vulnerable/pro-morbid (18.3%). Conclusions: The support of tools related to precision nutrition and lifestyle integrates well-being characteristics and contributes to reducing the impact of unhealthy lifestyle habits with practical implications for primary care. Combining lifestyle, metabolic, and quality of life traits will facilitate personalized precision interventions and the implementation of targeted public health policies.

Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence induced by magnesium chloride (MgCl2) and zinc gluconate (ZnG) supplementation on liver and kidney injuries experimentally induced with acetaminophen (AAPh) and potentiated by a ciprofloxacin addition in rats. Material and Methods: The experiment was performed on five animal groups: group 1-control, treated for 6 weeks with normal saline, 1 mL/kg; group 2-AAPh, treated for 6 weeks with AAPh, 100 mg/kg/day; group 3-AAPh + C, treated for 6 weeks with AAPh 100 mg/kg/day and ciprofloxacin 50 mg/kg/day, only in the last 14 days of the experiment; group 4-AAPh + C + Mg, with the same treatment as group 3, but in the last 14 days, MgCl2 10 mg/ kg/day was added; and group 5-AAPh + C + Zn, with the same treatment as group 3, but in the last 14 days, zinc gluconate (ZnG), 10 mg/kg/day was added. All administrations were performed by oral gavage. ⋯ MgCl2 provided a slight protection against the decrease in superoxide dismutase (0.01 < p < 0.05 group 4 vs. group 3), but not against decrease of glutathione peroxidase. The improvement of mentioned parameters could also be seen in the case of ZnG, to a higher extent, especially in the case of alanine aminotransferase and lactic dehydrogenase (0.01 < p < 0.05 group 5 vs. group 4). Conclusions: This study presents further proof for the beneficial effect of magnesium and zinc salts against toxicity induced by different agents, including antibacterials added to the analgesic and antipyretic acetaminophen; the protection is proven on the liver and kidney's function, and the antioxidant profile improvement has a key role, especially in the case of zinc gluconate.
