Background and Objectives: Leukemia, characterized by abnormal leukocyte production, exhibits clonal origin from somatic mutations. Globally, it ranked 15th in cancer incidence in 2020, with higher prevalence in developing countries. In Mexico, it was the ninth most frequent cancer. ⋯ In the age-specific analysis, we found that the childhood group (5-9 years) were the most affected by acute lymphocytic leukemia in the pediatric population, while in the adult population, the early-adulthood group (15-29 years) were the most affected age group. In contrast, chronic myeloid leukemia affected both adults and the pediatric populations, while chronic lymphocytic leukemia and monocytic leukemia were exclusive to adults. The study underscores the need for tailored diagnostic, treatment, and preventive strategies based on age, contributing valuable insights into the leukemia epidemiology of the Bajio region.

Review Meta Analysis
The Impact of Positive Peritoneal Cytology on the Survival Rates of Early-Stage-Disease Endometrial Cancer Patients: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and Objectives: The impact of positive peritoneal cytology has been a matter of controversy in early-stage endometrial cancer for several years. The latest staging systems do not take into consideration its presence; however, emerging evidence about its potential harmful effect on patient survival outcomes suggests otherwise. In the present systematic review and meta-analysis, we sought to accumulate current evidence. ⋯ The overall survival of the included patients was considerably higher among those that did not have positive peritoneal cytology (HR 12.76, 95% CI 2.78, 58.51). Conclusions: Positive peritoneal cytology seems to be a negative prognostic indicator of survival outcomes of patients with endometrial cancer. Considering the absence of data related to the molecular profile of patients, further research is needed to evaluate if this factor should be reinstituted in future staging systems.

Background and Objectives: The therapeutic management of carious lesions remains a significant focus for researchers, given their persistently high prevalence despite being largely preventable. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a composite resin-based sealant material in halting extended non-cavitated dentin carious lesions when used therapeutically versus preventively on caries-free teeth over a period of twelve months. Materials and Methods: out of the 236 children examined, 45 were excluded from the study due to non-compliance with the inclusion criteria. ⋯ All molars were sealed and evaluated at 6- and 12-month follow-up intervals. Both intervals revealed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) in sealant retention and carious lesion development between sound (ICDAS code 0) and decayed (ICDAS code 3) teeth. Conclusions: the findings did not support the effectiveness of sealants in halting non-cavitated dentin carious lesions classified as ICDAS II with code 3 compared to their preventive application in sound teeth classified as ICDAS II with code 0.

Background and Objectives: Faricimab is a vascular endothelial growth factor A and angiopoietin-2 bispecific antibody. It is a novel therapeutic approach distinct from previous anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of switching from aflibercept to faricimab in the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) refractory to aflibercept, with a specific focus on the resolution of macular edema. ⋯ The mean CRTs after the first and second IVFs were not significantly different from the CRT after the last IVA, but the mean CRT after the third and fourth IVFs was significantly thinner than that after the last IVA (p = 0.0025 and p = 0.0076, respectively). The mean BCVAs after the third and fourth IVFs significantly improved compared with that after the last IVA (p = 0.0050 and p = 0.0052, respectively). Conclusions: When switching the treatment to IVF for eyes with IVA-resistant DME, better treatment outcomes are achieved if IVF is performed three or more times.

The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in cancer is increasing. Their side effects are mainly due to the triggering of autoimmunity, which are mild or moderate and include skin rash, colitis, hepatitis, endocrine disorders, myositis, interstitial lung disorder, etc., in most cases during the course of therapy. Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is rare in cancer patients treated with ICIs. ⋯ The patient was treated with plasmapheresis, a high dose of intravenous steroids, and intravenous immunoglobulins. The patient improved, and he is now well with a performance status of 1. This case is interesting since the AE developed approximately 10 months after the cessation of immunotherapy, the underlying cancer was in complete remission, and the AE showed a good response after the treatment was performed.
