Background and Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to assess the adherence of Ngäbe-Buglé women to WHO-recommended prenatal practices. The secondary objective was to compare adherence levels between women who received prenatal education from official medical providers and those educated through traditional or community-based sources within Ngäbe-Buglé communities. Materials and Methods: An eight-question survey was verbally administered to 137 Ngäbe-Buglé women at clinics set up by the non-profit NGO Floating Doctors in eight communities. ⋯ Conclusions: Our findings highlight deficiencies in both prenatal education and adherence to recommended practices among Ngäbe-Buglé women. Prenatal education significantly improved adherence to taking prenatal vitamins, suggesting its effectiveness as an intervention. Future interventions should prioritize culturally competent prenatal education and address barriers to accessing prenatal healthcare in Ngäbe-Buglé communities.

Background and Objectives: irregularities in the growth and development of the jawbones can lead to misalignments of maxillary and mandibular structures, a complex condition known as skeletal malocclusion, one of the most common oral health problems. Skeletal malocclusions, particularly Class II and Class III, can significantly affect facial appearance, chewing efficiency, speech, and overall oral health, often requiring orthodontic treatment or surgery to correct. These dentofacial anomalies are influenced by genetic and environmental factors and exhibit diverse phenotypic expressions. ⋯ Conclusions: cephalometric analysis revealed no significant differences among genotypes, suggesting that while genetic factors are implicated in malocclusion, they may not directly affect cephalometric parameters or that the sample size was too small to detect these differences. The discovery of an A > T transversion in one individual with a Class II deformity underscores the genetic diversity within the population and the necessity of comprehensive genotyping to uncover rare genetic variants that might influence craniofacial development and the risk of malocclusion. This study highlights the need for larger studies to confirm these preliminary associations.

Background and Objectives: Despite rapid advances in targeted therapies for renal cell carcinoma (RCC), bone metastases remain a major problem that significantly increases morbidity and reduces patients' quality of life. Conventional fractionated radiotherapy (CF-RT) is known to be an important local treatment option for bone metastases; however, bone metastases from RCC have traditionally been considered resistant to CF-RT. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of CF-RT for symptomatic bone metastasis from RCC and identify the predictive factors associated with treatment outcomes in the targeted therapy era. ⋯ Conclusions: CF-RT enhances pain relief and LC when combined with targeted therapy. Patients who responded well to initial treatment generally showed consistent responses to subsequent CF-RT for additional painful bone lesions. CF-RT could therefore be an excellent complementary local treatment modality for targeted therapy.

Background and objectives: This study analyzed and compared the distribution patterns of occlusal forces using T-Scan III before and after the hydrostatic temporary oral splint (Aqualizer Ultra) therapy in healthy subjects and subjects with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Materials and Methods: Fifty-one subjects were divided into groups based on anamnesis and responses to the Fonseca questionnaire. The first group, non-TMDs group (n = 19), and the second group, TMDs group (n = 32), had mild-to-severe TMDs, as identified by the Fonseca questionnaire. ⋯ Analysis of force distributions in the entire study population before and after hydrostatic splint therapy showed significant differences in the anterior and posterior right regions. Occlusal force increased by 32-56% in the front region and decreased in the posterior area after hydrostatic splint usage. Conclusions: Hydrostatic splint therapy is recommended as a part of full-mouth rehabilitation treatment for all patients regardless of the severity of TMDs.

The Role of Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein as a Biomarker in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
There is debate on the role of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) as a reliable biomarker in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and its potential to reflect disease progression. This review aimed to investigate the role of GFAP in MS and NMOSD. A systematic search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Sciences, was conducted up to 20 December 2023 to identify studies that measured GFAP levels in people with MS (PwMS) and people with NMOSD (PwNMOSD). ⋯ The sGFAP was significantly higher in PwNMOSD than in HCs (SMD = 0.9, 95% CI: 0.73 to 1.07, p < 0.001, I2 = 10%). Among PwMS, the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) exhibited significant correlations with cGFAP (r = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.26 to 0.59, p < 0.001, I2 = 91%) and sGFAP (r = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.49, p < 0.001, I2 = 78%). Regarding that GFAP is increased in MS and NMOSD and has correlations with disease features, it can be a potential biomarker in MS and NMOSD and indicate the disease progression and disability in these disorders.
