We read with great interest the review article on pathophysiology and treatment based on different out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. We wish to present our comments on the threshold values for neuron-specific enolase (NSE) based on the initial rhythm and the misquoting of a few references in that article.

Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medic flower (AMf) exhibits both nutritional value and bioactivities such as antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and hepatoprotective effects. The aim of this investigation was to examine the potential impact of three different solvent extracts of AMf: supercritical CO2 extraction extract, water extract, and ethanol extract (AME), on management of diabetes. All three extracts demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase (IC50 = 157-261 μg/mL) and lipase (IC50 = 401-577 μg/mL) activities while enhancing the α-amylase activity (32.4-41.8 folds at 200 μg/mL). ⋯ Furthermore, AME protected β-cell viability and maintained normal insulin secretion under HG conditions, likely due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress within β-cells. This study demonstrated the potential of AME in preventing and managing diabetes and its associated complications. Further in vivo research is necessary to thoroughly elucidate the preventive effects and their underlying mechanisms.

Schizophrenia poses significant challenges for individuals and caregivers, often leading to recurrent hospitalizations. Limited information on patients with schizophrenia and multiple hospitalizations in Romania is available in the scientific literature. Our study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of patients with schizophrenia with multiple hospitalizations in a single center in Cluj-Napoca, analyzing if specific patterns exist between patients with two or more hospitalizations or between men and women. ⋯ Men and women showed differences in hospitalization stays (median 17.25 vs. 15 days, p-value < 0.001) and BPRS scores at admission (p-value = 0.012) and discharge (p-value = 0.016). Fewer First-Generation Antipsychotics were prescribed for those with two admissions, and nearly half reported adverse effects, notably tachycardia (29%), with similar occurrence within groups. Our results showed that the candidate for multiple hospitalizations is a male, with a mean age of 37 years, unmarried, and living with someone in urban settings, more likely a smoker who exhibits fear symptoms.

Background and Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most frequently diagnosed malignant disease of the gastrointestinal system, and new diagnostic and prognostic markers are needed to elucidate the complete tumor profile. Materials and Methods: We used CRC tumor tissues (Dukes' A-D) and adjacent noncancerous tissues of 43 patients. Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expression of phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B), phosphodiesterase 4D (PDE4D), and secreted frizzled related protein 5 (SFRP5) markers. ⋯ The data align with our immunohistochemical results and might suggest a potential tumor-suppressive role for these genes in CRC. Conclusions: Considering significantly lower gene expression, aligned with our immunohistochemical data in tumor tissue in comparison to the control tissue, as well as the significantly poorer survival rate in the case of its higher expression, we can hypothesize that SFRP5 is the most promising biomarker for CRC out of the observed proteins. These findings suggest alterations in PDE4B, PDE4D, and SFRP5 expression during CRC progression, as well as between different stages of CRC, with potential implications for understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in CRC development and progression.
