Pulmonary embolism (PE) is correlated with serious morbidity and mortality. Efforts have been made to establish and validate mortality predictive scores based mainly on clinical parameters. Patients with PE and traditional indices of echocardiographic right ventricular (RV) dysfunction or pressure overload have a higher probability of a worse outcome. ⋯ In this comprehensive review of the literature, we aimed to summarize these studies. Safe conclusions and comparisons among the reviewed studies are prone to statistical errors, mainly because the studies published were heterogenous in design, different 2DSTE-derived parameters were tested, and different clinical outcomes were used as endpoints. Nonetheless, RV strain indices and, more commonly, regional longitudinal strain of the RV free wall have shown a promising correlation with mortality, assisting in the differential diagnosis between PE and other acute or chronic disorders.

Vulvovaginal atrophy, characterized by the thinning of vaginal mucosa typically resulting from reduced estrogen levels, is frequently exacerbated by oncogynecologic treatments such as chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, radiotherapy, or surgery. This condition significantly impacts the quality of life for cancer survivors, leading to persistent discomfort, heightened infection risk, and negative effects on sexual function and self-esteem. Despite being a relatively common complication, vulvovaginal atrophy is not always discussed before the start of treatment. ⋯ A major safety concern is the risk of hormone-sensitive cancer recurrence associated with estrogen therapy, which drives a preference for non-hormonal alternatives. Newer treatments, such as laser therapy, radiofrequency, and vaginal injections, show promise with minimal side effects and hormone-independent mechanisms, though efficacy data varies, highlighting the need for further research. This narrative review explores the epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and management of vulvovaginal atrophy after the treatment for oncogynecologic disorders.

Class III malocclusion prevalence varies significantly among racial groups, with the highest prevalence observed in southeast Asian populations at 15.80%. These malocclusions often involve maxillary retrognathism, mandibular prognathism, or both, accompanied by maxillary constriction and crossbites. Comprehensive treatment should address anteroposterior, transverse, and vertical imbalances. ⋯ The treatment results were well-maintained after one year. The MARPE with MBR approach presents a promising alternative for treating borderline Class III cases, particularly for patients reluctant to undergo orthognathic surgery. This case report highlights the effectiveness of combining MARPE and MBR techniques in achieving stable and satisfactory outcomes in the treatment of Class III malocclusion.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the tumor response relating to and survival benefit of transarterial chemoperfusion (TACP) and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of patients with unresectable gynecologic tumors who are intolerant of or have a suboptimal response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: Between January 2000 and October 2023, 75 patients diagnosed with gynecologic tumors underwent 213 TACP and 154 TACE procedures. Of these, 33 patients were treated with TACP, 20 were treated with TACE, and 22 received a combination of both therapies. ⋯ The median overall survival was 16.15 months, while the median progression-free survival was 13.19 months. Conclusions: TACP and TACE are potential treatment options for local tumor control in patients with unresectable gynecologic tumors who are intolerant of or show a poor response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, further investigation and adjustment of treatment protocols are required to improve therapy response and survival outcomes.

Background and Objectives: Navigation systems are designed to enhance surgical precision, improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of implant misplacement. In this study, we have evaluated a novel orthopedic surgical platform that utilizes CT imaging with AI-based algorithms to automate several critical aspects of total hip arthroplasty. It contains three modules-preoperative planning, navigation during surgery, and follow-up analysis. ⋯ Results: In the inter-rater assessment, the mean errors were -0.31 ± 1.42° for anteversion, 1.06 ± 1.73° for inclination, and -0.94 ± 1.76 mm for cup position depth. In patients' surgeries, the mean errors were -0.07 ± 2.72° for anteversion, -0.2 ± 0.86° for inclination, and 0.28 ± 0.78 mm for cup depth. Conclusions: The navigation tool offers intra-operative guidance on notable precision in cup placement, thereby effectively mitigating the risk of cup malpositioning outside the patient-specific safe zone.
