We reviewed reports on the efficacy of clarithromycin in eradicating Helicobacter pylori. Reports on dual and 1-week triple therapy that included clarithromycin were analyzed to assess the eradication rates of H. pylori infection. ⋯ Clarithromycin is useful for treatment of H. pylori infection. One-week triple therapy that includes clarithromycin and a proton pump inhibitor effectively eradicates H. pylori.

Asymptomatic membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava forming intrahepatic collateral pathways.
Intrahepatic and/or extrahepatic collateral pathways result from the membranous obstruction of the inferior vena cava. These collaterals are usually insufficient to prevent Budd-Chiari syndrome. ⋯ Although the inferior vena cava terminated above the orifice of the right hepatic vein, the middle and left hepatic veins were patent above the membrane, without narrowing. Blood from the inferior vena cava drained into the right atrium via the intrahepatic collaterals between the right and middle hepatic veins without resistance.

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, based on two monoclonal antibodies (Hreg1-1 and Hreg101-1) specific for pancreatic stone protein (PSP)/reg-protein, was developed to determine the concentration of this protein in serum from individuals with various diseases. The serum concentration of PSP/reg-protein was significantly higher in patients with various pancreatic diseases than in normal controls, and was also significantly higher in patients with acute pancreatitis or chronic relapsing pancreatitis than in patients with chronic pancreatitis. ⋯ Whereas only 7 of these patients showed a normal serum PSP/reg-protein concentration and a significantly increased elastase-I concentration, 15 of these patients showed a significantly increased serum PSP/reg-protein concentration and a normal serum elastase-I concentration. These results indicate that the serum PSP/reg-protein concentration may reflect pancreatic damage, especially in acute pancreatitis, and may be a sensitive a marker for such damage as elastase-1, although false positivity was apparent in renal failure and in some patients with hepatic dysfunction or digestive system malignancies.

Cholangiographic appearance of multiseptate gallbladder: case report and a review of the literature.
A case of multiseptate gallbladder is described, with a review of the literature. This is the 24th such case report. The patient complained of right upper quadrant pain, colicky in nature. ⋯ On endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, multiple radiolucent lines crossing the gallbladder in various directions were noted within the gallbladder. The gallbladder was crisscrossed by numerous delicate septations and had a honeycomb appearance. These findings suggested multiseptate gallbladder.
