Device classification and preclinical data requirements for animal-derived wound care products were recently reviewed by the FDA. Given the possible performance differences for these products, we evaluated the FDA data requirements as well as the published literature for all animal-derived wound care products ever cleared through the FDA. ⋯ Although the current pathway is appropriate for efficiently clearing new wound care products, clinical effectiveness is not included in the regulatory review process. Wound care products are primarily evaluated by the FDA for safety and biocompatibility. Thus, any claims of clinical effectiveness require independent validation, which is often lacking.

Anterior Quadratus Lumborum Block at Lateral Supra-arcuate Ligament vs Lateral Quadratus Lumborum Block for Postoperative Analgesia after Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) has been found to be advantageous for laparoscopic colorectal surgery. This study hypothesized that preoperative anterior QLB at lateral supra-arcuate ligament (QLB-LSAL) would decrease postoperative opioid usage and offer improved analgesia within the context of multimodal analgesia compared with lateral QLB (LQLB) for laparoscopic colorectal surgery. ⋯ Preoperative bilateral ultrasound-guided QLB-LSAL reduces morphine usage and extends the duration until the first patient-controlled analgesia demand within the framework of multimodal analgesia when compared with LQLB after laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Legal intervention trauma (LIT) is defined as injury due to any encounter with law enforcement. This study investigates associations between demographics, violent status, and law enforcement tactics among youth decedents of LIT. ⋯ These findings indicate a racial disparity among youth decedents of LIT.
