Comparative StudyEffect of aloe cream versus silver sulfadiazine for healing burn wounds in rats.
The management of burn injury remains a problem and it is the major cause of death and disability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Aloe vera cream in the treatment of thermal burn wounds and to compare these results with silver sulfadiazine in rats. Animals were divided into four groups. ⋯ The wound size was significantly smaller in aloe group as compared with other groups. Histologic comparison showed aloe to increase reepithelialization in burn wounds significantly as compared with other cream-treated wounds. The results of this study showed aloe cream to significantly increase reepithelialization in burn wounds as compared with silver sulfadiazine.

Historical ArticleMilestones in the history of Croatian dermatology and venereology: an outsider's insight.
While the first traces of interest in skin diseases date back to the 14(th) century recipes from Glagolitic manuscripts, the scientific beginnings of dermatovenereology might be associated with the beginning of the 19(th) century, when in the Rijeka region a 'new disease', called after the village of Škrljevo, was studied by Giovanni Battista Cambieri. This, however, has not been the only disease named after a Croatian toponym; in 1826, Luca Stulli of Dubrovnik was the first to describe the 'mal de Meleda', nowadays recognized as a form of hereditary palmoplantar keratoderma. In 1876, Carl Heizmann, a Croatian from Vinkovci by birth, was one of the founders of the American Dermatological Association. ⋯ In 1921, the chair of dermatovenereology was established at Zagreb School of Medicine, and in 1927, Franjo Kogoj was the first to describe the spongiform pustule. In 1950, Ante Vukas from Rijeka developed a special method of epidermotectoscopy. If one remembers that the first history of AIDS was written by the Croatian Mirko Dražen Grmek, it would be allowed to concur that the history of dermatology and venereology on the Croatian soil has been characterized by a fascinating profusion and dynamism.

Case ReportsHalo phenomenon with regression of acquired melanocytic nevi: a case report.
We report a case of halo-phenomenon in excisional biopsy of junctional nevi in a 19-year-old girl. The diagnosis was established histopathologically because of the lack of clinical halo and unspecific dermoscopic features. ⋯ Dermatologists should be familiar with the possible changes in benign melanocytic nevi, halo reactions and possible complete regression of melanocytic nevi. Diagnostic difficulties are seen in the ultimate phase of regression when melanocytes are diminished or destroyed with immune reaction.

Calciphylaxis of the breast: a rare disease in the differential diagnosis of breast cancer.
Calciphylaxis is a rare, but potentially life-threatening condition usually observed in patients with end-stage chronic renal disease and characterized by small- and medium-sized blood vessel calcification leading to tissue ischemia. The clinical features are primarily cutaneous, consisting of skin necrosis and ulceration, mostly located in the lower extremities. We report a case of a 56-year-old woman with a previous history of renal disease and atypical lobular hyperplasia of the right breast, who developed painful skin necrosis on both breasts. Differential diagnosis comprises acute bacterial infection with ulceration, cutaneous vasculitis, cancer and calciphylaxis.
