Patients with existing pressure ulcers admitted to acute care.
This study describes the characteristics of patients with pressure ulcers present on admission to the hospital and predictors of pressure ulcer presence and severity. ⋯ Poorer nutritional status and decreased oxygen perfusion were predictors of pressure ulcers on admission. Nutrition and length of stay were predictors of ulcer severity. Further research is warranted.

Clinical TrialSensitivity and specificity of the Braden Scale in the cardiac surgical population.
A descriptive study was conducted to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of the Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Ulcer Risk in a cardiac surgical population. ⋯ These results illustrate that optimum prediction of pressure ulcer risk can only be accomplished with reassessments and determination of the Braden cutoff score or scores that are reflective of the patient's changing clinical condition throughout the hospitalization.
