This study was designed to investigate whether EGCG prevents cardiac I/R mitochondrial impairment and cell apoptosis by regulating miR-30a/p53 axis. ⋯ This study demonstrated that EGCG pretreatment may attenuate mitochondrial impairment and myocardial apoptosis by regulation of miR-30a/p53 axis.

Bavachin is a natural product isolated from Psoralea corylifolia L. that has been applied as a traditional medicine in Asian countries. However, the anti-inflammatory effects of bavachin on LPS-induced inflammation and NLRP3 inflammasome activation by macrophages remain unclear. ⋯ Our experimental results indicated anti-inflammatory effects of bavachin exhibit attenuation of LPS-induced inflammation and inhibit activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in macrophages. These results suggest that bavachin might have potential in treating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

Elemene injection is an anticancer Chinese patent medicine that is widely used for the treatment of advanced lung cancer. Its active ingredients are β-, γ- and δ-elemene, which are extracted from Curcumaaromatica Salisb. (Curcumawenyujin Y.H. Chen & C. Ling). ⋯ Elemene injection is a safe and effective adjunctive treatment to platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with stage III/IV NSCLC. Elemene injection can improve clinical efficacy, enhance cellular immune function and alleviate the toxicity of chemotherapy. High-quality RCTs with significant survival outcomes and longer follow-ups are warranted to confirm the results further.

Zhen-wu-tang (ZWT), a traditional herbal formula, has been widely used for the treatment of kidney diseases in clinics, but the underlying molecular mechanisms have not been fully understood. ⋯ Our present study indicates that the inhibition of NF-κB pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome might be the potential mechanisms for the therapeutic effects of ZWT against MN.

Inflammation is a major contributor to stroke pathology, making it a promising strategy for intervention. Microglia, the resident macrophages in the brain, play essential roles in both the generation and resolution of neuroinflammation. In particular, mitochondrial homeostasis is critical for microglial function and its dysregulation is involved in the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. Atractylenolide III (A III), a sesquiterpene lactone found in Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz, has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on inflammation. However, its effect specifically on neuroinflammation and microglial mitochondrial homeostasis following stroke remains elusive. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that A III was able to reduce complications associated with ischemia through inhibiting neuroinflammation, which was mediated in part by JAK2/STAT3-dependent mitochondrial fission in microglia.
