The aim of our study was to assess anxiety and depression in patients' relatives after a decision of withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatments. ⋯ We found symptoms of anxiety and depression in relatives after decisions of withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatments in emergency departments, which persist at 21 days. Further studies are needed to support these results and to search the relatives at risk to develop these symptoms.

Randomized Controlled Trial Observational Study
'Stop sign' position for subclavian ultrasound: a single-blinded observational study of subclavian vein dimensions.
Right subclavian vein (SCV) dimensions were evaluated on ultrasound and whether these change when the right upper limb is in a neutral position compared with the 'stop sign' position (shoulder abducted and externally rotated to 90°, elbow flexed to 90°), and when patients were positioned 30° head-up compared with lying supine. ⋯ Utilizing the stop sign position does not change SVC dimensions when patients are supine, however, may improve dimensions when lying supine is contraindicated.

Theoretical knowledge and ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are unknown with regard to provided training. The aim of this study was to evaluate in-hospital healthcare professionals' (HCPs) theoretical knowledge of CPR and their self-assessed ability to perform CPR and also to assess possible affecting factors. ⋯ The overall theoretical knowledge was poor and ratings of self-assessed abilities to perform CPR were low. Working on a monitored ward, recently attended CPR training and being a nurse or physician were factors associated with higher theoretical knowledge and higher ratings of self-assessed ability to perform CPR. These findings imply prioritisation of CPR training.
