Intravenous thrombolysis with the tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is the gold standard for acute ischemic stroke. However, its application is limited because of the concern of the post-tPA intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Low low-density lipoprotein (LDL) has been speculated to increase the risk of hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke. ⋯ However, after adjustment for the factors might affect the risk of post-tPA ICH, such as stroke severity, onset-to-treatment time interval, and atrial fibrillation (AF), LDL level was not associated with post-tPA ICH whereas AF was the only significant factor increased the risk of post-tPA ICH (adjusted OR: 1.177, 95% CI 1.080 to 1.283). In addition, patients with AF had significant lower LDL level and for patients without AF, LDL was not associated with the post-tPA ICH. In conclusion, LDL level is not associated with the risk of post-tPA ICH in Taiwanese patients with stroke.

Clinical features of patients with male breast cancer in Shanxi province of China from 2007 to 2016.
This study aims to understand the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of patients with male breast cancer (MBC) in Shanxi province of China from 2007 to 2016. Data for 77 patients with MBC were collected for analysis. Immunohistochemistry, pathological results, and other data such as demographic characteristics (age, marital status, smoking history, drinking history, and family history of cancer) as well as clinical data were investigated by retrieving information from the patients' medical records. ⋯ The epidemiological and clinical features of Chinese MBC are similar to that of other countries. As the Chinese public have limited knowledge of MBC, it is necessary to increase awareness among them about it. Further research with a large sample size is required for better understanding of the risks associated with MBC.

The Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI), based on peripheral lymphocyte, neutrophil, and monocyte counts, was recently investigated as a prognostic marker for several tumors. However, use of the SIRI has not been reported for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We evaluated the prognostic value of the SIRI in primary and validation cohorts. ⋯ This nomogram can efficiently predict the prognosis of patients with NPC. The SIRI is a novel, simple and inexpensive prognostic predictor for patients with NPC. The SIRI has important value for predicting the prognosis of patients with NPC and developing individualized treatment plans.

The role of renal excretion of Pi in relation to vascular calcification (VC) in patients in the early stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is controversial. Thus, we determine the relation between fractional excretion of phosphorus (FEP) and VC, measured using two methods in a cross-sectional study of patients with stage 3 CKD. We recorded demographic data, anthropometry, comorbidities and active treatment. ⋯ By contrast, only age (OR 1.35, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.74), CaxP (OR 1.14, CI 1.13 to 1.92) and FEP (OR 1.07,95% CI 1004 to 1.14) were associated with abnormal VC in the lateral abdominal radiography. In conclusion, in patients with stage 3 CKD, the detection of VC by abdominal CT is more sensitive than conventional X-rays. Moreover, CaxP is associated with cardiovascular risk factors and vascular comorbidity; quantification of FEPi in these patients provides additional clinical information in advanced VC detected by KI.

To investigate serum interleukin (IL)- 35 levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to describe the association between serum IL-35 levels and clinical parameters: erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C reactive protein (CRP), global health on Visual Analog Scale, Disease Activity Score in 28 joints based on ESR (DAS28-ESR), rheumatoid factor (RF) and anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPAs). The study included 129 patients with RA and 83 healthy controls. Serum IL-35 levels were detected by ELISA. ⋯ The results showed that serum IL-35 levels were elevated in patients with RA. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the high serum IL-35 levels were correlated with low ESR and DAS28-ESR. These suggested that IL-35, an important anti-inflammatory cytokine, may participate in the regulation of the pathogenesis of RA, especially with disease activity.
