ReviewErdafitinib: A novel therapy for FGFR-mutated urothelial cancer.
To provide an overview of fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) gene alterations and the pharmacology, clinical effectiveness, dosage and administration, cost, and place in therapy of erdafitinib in bladder cancer. ⋯ Erdafitinib is the first small-molecule FGFR inhibitor approved for use in advanced bladder cancer.

ReviewManagement of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A review focusing on exacerbations.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Exacerbations- acute worsening of COPD symptoms-can be mild to severe in nature. Increased healthcare resource use is common among patients with frequent exacerbations, and exacerbations are a major cause of the high 30-day hospital readmission rates associated with COPD. ⋯ Maximizing bronchodilation by the appropriate use of maintenance therapy, together with multidisciplinary disease-management and patient education programs, offers opportunities to reduce exacerbations, hospitalizations, and readmissions for patients with COPD.

Pharmacist-driven penicillin skin testing service for adults prescribed nonpreferred antibiotics in a community hospital.
Results of a study evaluating the implementation and impact of a pharmacist-driven penicillin skin testing (PST) service for patients prescribed alternative antibiotics in the community hospital setting are reported. ⋯ A pharmacist-driven PST service was successfully implemented in a community hospital setting.

A novel strategy for management of acute pain associated with sickle cell disease (SCD), referred to as the oral tier approach, is described. ⋯ Healthcare providers can use the oral tier approach to facilitate rapid inpatient conversion from i.v. PCA to oral opioids while providing adequate pain control in patients with SCD who develop VOC.

Observational StudyEffect of pharmacist-led task force to reduce opioid prescribing in the emergency department.
Results of a study to determine the effect of a pharmacist-led opioid task force on emergency department (ED) opioid use and discharge prescriptions are presented. ⋯ A clinical pharmacist-led opioid reduction program in the ED was demonstrated to have positive results, with a more than 50% reduction in both ED opioid orders and discharge prescriptions.
