Assessment of low-dose i.v. ketamine infusions for adjunctive analgesia.
The results of a study evaluating all patients treated with adjunctive low-dose ketamine for analgesia over a three-year period are presented. ⋯ A retrospective review found that patients receiving continuous ketamine infusions in addition to opioid therapy saw a reduction in pain scores and experienced cardiovascular adverse effects in greater than 20% of cases.

Comparative StudyPredictive performance of glomerular filtration rate estimation equations based on cystatin C versus serum creatinine values in critically ill patients.
The predictive performance of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation equations based on cystatin C versus serum creatinine (SCr) values in critically ill patients was evaluated. ⋯ A retrospective observational study showed no evidence of superiority of a cystatin C-based equation over SCr-based equations to estimate the GFR in an ICU population.

Pharmacist involvement in a multidisciplinary initiative to reduce sepsis-related mortality.
Pharmacy department contributions to a medical center's broad initiative to improve sepsis care outcomes are described. ⋯ Implementation of the Code Sepsis initiative was associated with reductions in order turnaround time, time to antibiotic administration, and sepsis-related mortality.

Enactment of mandatory pharmacy technician certification in Kansas.
The successful enactment of mandatory pharmacy technician certification in Kansas is described. ⋯ The formation of a task force led to the successful passage of a bill granting the Kansas Board of Pharmacy the authority to issue regulations regarding mandatory pharmacy technician certification.
