Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized, placebo-controlled study of intravenous montelukast in children with acute asthma.
Up to 30% of patients require hospitalization for acute asthma despite standard therapy in the emergency department. In adults, intravenous montelukast added to standard therapy significantly improved forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and reduced hospital admissions compared with standard therapy alone. ⋯ In this study of children with acute asthma, intravenous montelukast was not significantly better than placebo in improving FEV1, symptoms, or overall hospital course.

Anaphylaxis in the obstetric patient: analysis of a statewide hospital discharge database.
Previous reports of anaphylaxis during pregnancy typically have involved single institutions and a few cases. ⋯ Anaphylaxis during pregnancy is a rare event. In this large case series, we found that beta-lactam antibiotics were the most common triggers of anaphylaxis.

Clinical and immunobiochemical characterization of airborne Delonix regia (Gulmohar tree) pollen and cross-reactivity studies with Peltophorum pterocarpum pollen: 2 dominant avenue trees from eastern India.
Delonix regia and Peltophorum pterocarpum pollen are important aeroallergens for type 1 hypersensitivity in the tropics. The IgE-binding proteins of D regia and their cross-allergenity with P pterocarpum pollen have not been evaluated. ⋯ The purification of the IgE-binding proteins and the identification of the shared/cross-reactive proteins in these taxonomically related pollen members should be helpful for the diagnosis and therapy of patients susceptible to these pollens.
