We investigated the effect of pre-treatment with ondansetron or CP 93129 (a 5-HT1B agonist) on the antinociceptive activity of paracetamol and the changes in central 5-HT3 receptors induced by paracetamol alone or co-administered with ondansetron. ⋯ Our data indicate that 5-HT1B but not 5-HT3 receptors are involved in the antinociceptive effect of paracetamol in our experimental conditions.

Enhanced histamine metabolism: a comparative analysis of collagenous colitis and food allergy with respect to the role of diet and NSAID use.
To compare clinical data and histamine metabolism of patients with collagenous colitis with those of food allergy. ⋯ Histamine is extensively produced and metabolised in patients with collagenous colitis. In contrast to food allergy, the allergenic potency of the administered food seems not to influence histamine production in collagenous colitis. However, histamine metabolism corresponds with the clinical activity in both patients with food allergy and collagenous colitis.

The present study was designed to examine the involvement of bradykinin in thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia induced by chronic constriction nerve injury (CCI) using B1 and B2 receptor antagonists and mutant kininogen-deficient rats. ⋯ These data suggests that kinin were at least partly involved in yielding nociceptor hypersensitivity up to day 14 after CCI. Bradykinin and its B1 and B2 receptors were involved in the maintenance of hyperalgesia.

Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways and the current focus in managing asthma is the control of inflammation. In this study, we attempted to investigate the anti-asthmatic potential of a plant derived natural compound, luteolin. ⋯ Our study showed that luteolin treatment during and after sensitization significantly attenuated the asthmatic features in experimental mice. Therefore, luteolin could be used either as a lead molecule to identify an effective antiasthma therapy or as a means to identify novel anti-asthma targets.

Histamine release in mesenteric traction syndrome during abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery: prophylaxis with H1 and H2 antihistamines.
Mesenteric traction syndrome is described as sudden tachycardia, hypotension and flush. Among other etiological factors eventeration or mesenteric traction of the small intestine may cause histamine release from mesenteric mast cells. We hypothesized that mesenteric traction syndrome may be positively influenced by prophylactic antihistamine administration. ⋯ Prophylactic administration of antihistamines reduced the incidence of histamine release as well as the incidence of arrhythmias and the amount of stabilising measures during mesenteric traction. Prophylaxis with H1 and H2 antihistamines may be of perioperative benefit and should therefore be considered in AAA-surgery.
