Flat-panel x-ray detector using amorphous silicon technology. Reduced radiation dose for the detection of foreign bodies.
The authors evaluate a new flat-panel x-ray detector (FD) with respect to foreign body detection and reduction of radiation dose compared with screen-film radiography. ⋯ Flat-panel x-ray detector technology allows significant reduction in radiation dose compared with screen-film radiography without loss of diagnostic accuracy.

The value of additional carpal box radiographs in suspected scaphoid fracture.
Carpal Box (CB) radiographs, transverse and longitudinal, produce elongated and magnified views of the carpus. These radiographs can be used after carpal injury, in addition to conventional scaphoid x-rays. In this study, the use of CB radiographs was evaluated in patients with possible scaphoid fracture. ⋯ In the diagnosis of scaphoid fracture, Carpal Box radiography is of limited value in patients with clinically suspected scaphoid fracture. In two of 10 patients with initial dubious scaphoid x-ray, bone scintigraphy can be avoided. Furthermore, the reliability of the interpretation of the radiographs is increased by additional Carpal Box radiography.

Comparative StudyHepatic abscesses. Magnetic resonance imaging findings using gadolinium-BOPTA.
Gadolinium (Gd)-BOPTA was evaluated in a rabbit liver abscess model and compared with Gd-HP-DO3A, examining lesion conspicuity and characterization. ⋯ The conspicuity of an early liver abscess is improved markedly on delayed imaging after administration of 0.1 mmol/kg Gd-BOPTA. Although a similar magnitude of parenchymal enhancement can be obtained after the administration of an extracellular agent, such as Gd-HP-DO3A, high-contrast dose (0.3 mmol/kg) and early dynamic imaging are required. The appearance of a liver abscess on late scans (45 to 60 minutes) after Gd-BOPTA injection is distinct from that of nonnecrotic metastases, with diffusion of the agent into the lesion noted.

Distribution pattern of computed tomography findings in patients with bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia.
The authors evaluated high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings in 15 patients with biopsy-proven bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP). Special attention was paid to lobar distribution to establish a predominant distribution pattern for this disease. ⋯ Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia presents a predominant peripheral, bilateral, and nonsegmental distribution, with the lower and middle lobes affected more than the upper lobes.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialLower extremity angiography: improved image quality and outflow vessel detection with bilaterally antegrade selective digital subtraction angiography. A blinded prospective intraindividual comparison with aortic flush digital subtraction angiography.
To introduce routine bilaterally antegrade selective stationary digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and prospectively compare it with unselective stationary DSA in the detection of calf arteries and assess additional time and complication rate. ⋯ Bilaterally antegrade selective DSA clearly is superior to aortic run-off DSA depicting tibial arteries. It requires comparatively small additional effort. Outflow vessel detection essentially is independent of advanced PVD.
