Multicenter StudyDevelopment and External Validation of a Model Predicting Death After Surgery in Patients With a Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: The Dutch Aneurysm Score.
The decision whether or not to proceed with surgical intervention of a patient with a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) is very difficult in daily practice. The primary objective of the present study was to develop and to externally validate a new prediction model: the Dutch Aneurysm Score (DAS). ⋯ The present study shows that the DAS has a higher discriminative performance (AUC) compared with the GAS. All clinical variables used for the DAS are easy to obtain. Identification of low risk patients with the DAS can potentially reduce turndown rates. The DAS can reliably be used by clinicians to make a more informed decision in dialogue with the patient and their family whether or not to proceed with surgical intervention.

Extensibility and Distensibility of the Thoracic Aorta in Patients with Aneurysm.
Reference values of aortic deformation during the cardiac cycle can be valuable for the pre-operative planning of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and for facilitating computational fluid dynamics. This study aimed to quantify normal aortic extensibility (longitudinal extension) and distensibility (radial expansion), as well as pulsatile strain, in a group of 10 (>60 years) individuals with abdominal or thoracic aortic aneurysms. ⋯ Pulsatile deformations in both longitudinal and circumferential directions are considerable throughout the thoracic aorta. These findings may have implications for pre-operative TEVAR planning and highlight the need for devices that can mimic the significant aortic longitudinal and circumferential strains.

Review Meta AnalysisSystematic Review and Meta-analysis of Dual Versus Single Antiplatelet Therapy in Carotid Interventions.
The importance of antiplatelet therapy for the management and prevention of ischaemic stroke cannot be overstated. Despite the established guidelines, there is no clear consensus on how to manage antiplatelet therapy during and after carotid interventions. ⋯ Dual antiplatelet therapy demonstrates advantages over single therapy only in CAS, as indicated by a reduced risk of TIA. Dual antiplatelet therapy was associated with an increased risk of bleeding complications in patients undergoing CEA.

The DanCavas Pilot Study of Multifaceted Screening for Subclinical Cardiovascular Disease in Men and Women Aged 65-74 Years.
This pilot study of a large population based randomised screening trial investigated feasibility, acceptability, and relevance (prevalence of clinical and subclinical cardiovascular disease [CVD] and proportion receiving insufficient prevention) of a multifaceted screening for CVD. ⋯ Owing to the higher prevalence of severe conditions, such as aneurysms and CAC ≥ 400, screening for CVD seemed more prudent in men than women. The attendance rates were acceptable compared with other screening programs and the logistical structure of the screening program proved successful.
