Patient-specific endovascular simulation influences interventionalists performing carotid artery stenting procedures.
The ability to perform patient-specific simulated rehearsal of complex endovascular interventions is a technological advance with potential benefits to patient outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate whether patient-specific rehearsal of a carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedure has an influence on tool selection and the use of fluoroscopy. ⋯ Patient-specific simulated rehearsal of a complex endovascular procedure strongly influences tool selection and fluoroscopy preferences for the real case. Further research has to evaluate how this technology may transfer from in vitro to in vivo and if it can reduce the radiation dose and the number of endovascular tools used and improve outcomes for patients in the clinical setting.

Incidence and outcome of pulmonary embolism following popliteal venous repair in trauma cases.
Popliteal vein repair and ligation are the two main approaches to the treatment of the venous component of major, complex, knee injuries with vascular involvement. We have studied the incidence of pulmonary embolism following popliteal vein repair in trauma cases using computed tomography (CT) angiography and report the outcome. ⋯ A surprisingly high incidence of pulmonary embolism was observed after popliteal vein repair in civil trauma patients. Additional prophylactic methods such as using higher doses of heparin and using inferior vena cava (IVC) filters might be needed to prevent this potentially fatal complication.

Predictors of stroke and paraplegia in thoracic aortic endovascular intervention.
Endoluminal repair of thoracic aortic pathology has become established in clinical practice, but is associated with significant neurological complications. The aim of this study was to identify factors that were predictive of stroke and paraplegia. ⋯ Covering the left subclavian artery without revascularisation increases the risk of stroke following endoluminal repair of thoracic pathology. Paraplegia appears to be more complex and no independent precipitating factor was identified.

Early and long-term outcome after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for acute complicated type B aortic dissection.
The study aimed to investigate early and long-term outcome of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for acute complicated type B dissection. ⋯ In patients with acute complicated type B aortic dissection, TEVAR can be performed with excellent early and long-term survival, whereas morbidity and long-term durability must be further elucidated.

Urgent carotid endarterectomy in patients with recent/crescendo transient ischaemic attacks or acute stroke.
Objective of this study was to review the results of urgent carotid endarterectomy (CEA) performed in patients with recent (< 24 h) or crescendo (at least 2 episodes in 24 h) transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or with acute stroke in a single centre experience. ⋯ Urgent CEA in patients with recent/crescendo TIA provided in our experience excellent results, with low rates of perioperative and late stroke. In selected patients with acute stroke early surgery seems to provide acceptable results.
